Biden’s asylum ban is cruel and exactly contrary to what he ran on when he condemned Trump for banning asylum.

I don’t know how to get Democrats in power to understand that embracing Republican policies won’t flip Republican voters. Whether it’s on bloated defense spending, police militarization, gutting social services, or restriction immigration—you cannot out racist elected Republicans.

@QasimRashid I will never get why there is a fascination with courting people that are only kind of republican, instead of actually energizing the actual left.

Biden should have thrown up middle fingers when immigration is pointed as a weakness, and stated that decency to humans is what we need more of.

@raven667 @QasimRashid right. I am worried the current administration has over estimated the ability to keep the ones that are against racism

@ATLeagle @QasimRashid I think a lot comes down to the candidates perception of the voting population, that there aren't enough leftist anti-racist voters to carry the electoral college so you need some percentage of the majority white supremacist voters to actually win, but the balancing act is keeping the two constituencies from alienating each other.

@ATLeagle @QasimRashid If half the left consistently sits out every election, and Biden only needs to pull fractions of percents of Trump’s support in order to win, and he’s clearly trying to be the president for all Americans, do you think he’ll shift to the left or to the center?

@WhiteCatTamer @QasimRashid there would be a tremendous lack of sitting out if those voters thought that they were actually being represented. I'm amazed how people say that simple phrase, and then get dog piled by people that simply didn't hear the reason.

@ATLeagle @QasimRashid Would there? I’d think if it were as simple as that that 3rd party candidates, especially in local races, would be getting far more of the electorate than they are.

I think the simple reality is that it’s much harder to turn a nonvoter into a voter than it is to turn a voter into a voter for one party.

That, and when the party must be a big tent in order to succeed, reflecting every aspect of its individual elements is simply impossible.

@WhiteCatTamer @QasimRashid Bernie was looking very strong for the 2016 run, u til the party machine coalesced to stop him. That's basically third party. Our system really doesn't allow national independents to score.

Imagine if they could tell people in the center to hold their noses and vote against fascism, and then actually be able to stand up for different values

@ATLeagle @QasimRashid They are. That’s why Biden is making pitches at Haley voters.

The right has been very good at shifting the Overton window. It won’t be shifted back within one, two, three elections; it was a decades long push and it will be a decades long push back.

@WhiteCatTamer @QasimRashid I just don't have confidence in that working. Convincing Haley voters to stay home while encouraging people who want to be able to like you seems better. The last election was won on high voter engagement and turnout, and this one seems to be ready for people to feel not represented and stay home.

@WhiteCatTamer @QasimRashid and I hope it goes without saying... I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do or how to think. Just venting my fears and thoughts

@ATLeagle Had a word vomit reply that was about 2.5k characters and then just backed out by accident. Probably for the best. Not angry or debating just…trying to explain feelings and fears, talk like a person.

      Anyways.

I get it, and I don’t like to fight people. I just know, personally, how misdirected, though legitimate, anger and failure of control turns into self-harm and obsessively focusing on keeping one’s own body (politic?) clean, and social media turbocharges it.
