      @2d @GreenFire @underpantsgnome @zleap I'd like to do away with the electoral college, also. That said, if you look around the globe where there are multiple parties, all they do is form coalition governments that align largely to right and left. All democracies have to serve large populations with diverse opinions. No one gets everything they want. We need to stop acting like children and pretending that there is a more perfect version, when we have had two centuries of success with democracy.

      @GreenFire @underpantsgnome @zleap @augieray right, but it’s a systemic issue that we’re even choosing between two evils and not two virtues
      First past the post voting + two party system + electoral college are a horrendous combo

      @2d @underpantsgnome @zleap @augieray
      If enough people refuse to vote for the lessor evil than we all end up having more evil elected officials.

      That's the transitive property of democracy. Lesser evil is less evil than more evil.

      @2d @zleap @augieray I'm in agreement with you on half of that; if you keep voting for the lesser of two evils all you'll get as options are evils.

      @underpantsgnome @zleap @augieray I think that’s a systemic issue and not an issue of who people vote for

      @zleap @augieray If you don't drive you can't complain about traffic. If you don't smoke you can't complain about cigarettes. If you don't participate in a rigged system you can't mention that it's rigged.

      @underpantsgnome @zleap @augieray I think you have your analogy backwards. If you drive, you can’t complain about traffic - you’re the problem. If you smoke, you can’t complain about smoking - you’re the problem. If you vote for idiots - you can’t complain when they get into office. If you don’t vote - you can’t complain when an idiot gets into office

      If you don't't vote you can't complain about the outcome, every vote is important

      Even if people think it is not worth voting.

      Our almost 250 year success with our imperfect democracy makes the anarchists and other authoritarians so, so angry they can't think it seems.

      @GreenFire @augieray @underpantsgnome @zleap yes, the fact that we have to strategically choose candidates based on one or two of our biggest issues means that we will necessarily be electing candidates who we likely won’t agree with on many other issues. Ranked choice or approval voting helps fix this by widening the potential candidates without making strategic voting (the spoiler effect) the reality of every election.

      Do you care about our climate crisis?

      Do you have the impression that Republicans care about our climate crisis?

      Don't vote for a person if you need to look at it that way. Vote for policies.

      @2d @GreenFire @augieray @underpantsgnome @zleap I want ranked choice. It's creeping in in Maine, NYC, etc. Mostly under democratic party acquiescence. While the GOP continues to do their voter suppression thing. So how do we get ranked choice? We vote Democrat and demand it. We don't just chill out and do nothing and expect people to read our minds

      @benroyce @GreenFire @augieray @underpantsgnome @zleap that’s my strategy absolutely, I’ve been contacting representatives and voting every single local and federal election. I’ve volunteered for the local nonprofit that advocates for RCV as well. Unfortunately a measure failed to pass the MN senate about a week ago. Even dems are against it sometimes, and they’re really holding us back.

      @GreenFire @augieray @underpantsgnome @zleap I’m voting for Biden btw, don’t get me wrong! As a trans person it would be insanely stupid to not vote or to throw away my vote on anyone else. I risk losing access to HRT with trump.
