     @cheeaun They can't, because of that pesky thing called monetization and ads.

     Even if they did, it wouldn't be what you'd expect. Look at how many Threads users haven't enabled federation support.

     We serve a different userbase, being that we're basically the open source Instagram. Having the ability to follow your IG friends and family from your Pixelfed instance would be so ideal and amazing, I'm so here for that!

     Now that you mentioned it, I did notice that when following Threads from Pixelfed, no posts are displayed…which seems intentional in hindsight. 🤔

     @darnell @dansup yeah, basically they rely on that to figure out if they should federate — i.e., they don't want to federate with bad actors.

     I think a lot of users of Pixelfed (including me) is using it BECAUSE there is no 'friends' and 'family' and most importantly, IG influencers and similar brainrot.
