@jb on the other side, if you skip maybe 50 meals, you might be able to put aside enough to buy one in 2 years when people are desperate.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating Depends on the size of the boat. Lots of retired cops and other high paid blue collar guys that could milk overtime used to buy like a small speed boat and put it on a lake.

@sickburnbro I thought only rich people and fishing companies bought boats. Doesn't this mean that rich people are getting squeezed?

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating iirc at one point you could get one for the cost of like a new mid-sized car.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating well, what is the point of the stonks, geld? So you can spend it later. On what?

Those guys had pensions, usually had kids at like 20, so by the time they are 50 all of them were adults themselves.

I feel like it was kind of a "life is good, relax a little"

@sickburnbro "I bought a mid-sized car that doesn't get me to work. For fun."

I don't even understand this mindset. I make six figures and I consistently throw it all in stonks/golds/etc. because I don't enjoy doing things that cost stupidly huge piles of money.

@ceo_of_monoeye_dating it's like people now that buy an electric car "as a toy car" .. it's like ok, but seems like a bit silly.

@Starprophet1 @jb yeah, there are some boats that for the right price might not be too bad to live on.

@JoshuaSlocum @Starprophet1 @jb "(IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO CARE FOR YOUR TEAK YOU FUCKING NIGGERS)" oh sir, I don't know how to tell you this, but anything they have to maintain they are going to strip. They're boomers, this is what they do.

@sickburnbro @Starprophet1 @jb Right price, though, is tough.

It's obviously highly variable across makes and models, but one I keep an eye on is older Grand Banks. (Post-1970 or so, prior to that they had wooden hulls, which are fine if taken care of, but they are not. The survey will 100% find problems.)

There's been an uptick in prices in certain models. 60% or more, and the price rise do not seem to reflect higher quality or upkeep. I've seen some that used to go for $180-200K that are now $300K, but the owner has stripped the teak decks.

(IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO CARE FOR YOUR TEAK YOU FUCKING NIGGERS)

I don't have an explanation. Inflation, sure, maybe. Boomers trying to gouge? That's a good bet, but you can only sell to other, slightly younger Boomers.

Sailboats seem to be more or less stable, but that's a different kettle of fish.
