@alchemy@sickburnbro >roman procurator puts you up on a cross with KING OF THE JEWS written above your head >roman soldiers gamble for your clothes >roman soldiers guard your tomb
@sickburnbro@alchemy Should I re read the parts about how Jesus was a Jew who was circumcised according to the Mosaic law, read Hebrew in the synagogue at age 12, and accused the Pharisees of being hypocrites and that not one jot or tittle or the Law is to be ignored?
@doctorsex@alchemy@sickburnbro He was the Roman authority and could have just not done it if he didn't want to, as he had the legal authority to do so if he so desired. Obviously, Pilate was lying.
Does that include the parts where Pilate says "I wash my hands of this man" or repeatedly asks the (jewish) crowd why they want a murderer set free over a guy who didn't commit any crime? Or the whole "his blood will be on our heads and the heads of our children"? That stuff?
@doctorsex@alchemy@sickburnbro The Jews who were bringing another Jew before him and claiming he was engaging in insurrection, which under Roman law was one of the few crimes one could actually get crucified for. As the Roman authority, Pilate could have refused to have someone crucified. Therefore, Pilate was lying and wanted him dead too.
Why would the line of pilate saying "I wash my hands of this man" be included in the gospel then? The author seems intent on removing agency from pilate in that scenario, whether you agree with that or not.
@SAKURARadiochan@doctorsex@alchemy I am well aware of their part in his death. But your insistence on blaming them over the jews is what I am highlighting here.
@Liquid_Boss@sickburnbro@doctorsex@alchemy See I keep hearing the Jews are to blame when everybody ignores the Romans were the ones who actually did it. And it's not like the Romans ever were easy on the Jews to begin with; within the past century Pompey the Great had occupied Jerusalem.
Jews have always been argumentative and prone to fomenting rebellion. Jesus was no exception.
Nobody disputes the fact that the Romans had carried out the demands of the jews. What we're curious about, is why you are insistent on absolving the jews of any responsibility or agency in this, when scripture does suggest there is at least some measure of culpability there. And this isn't some one-off thing; nearly any time I see your posts in a thread it's defending jews. Which stands out like a sore thumb. Why would an ostensible philosemite join up on and stay on a rather anti-semitic leaning webzone? For what purpose? To what ends? It's truly bizarre.
Pilate didn't want to, but when push came to shove, he was more afraid of the Jews than he was of Jesus. Pilate knew he was killing an innocent man. He didn't want to, but his own self-interests took priority.
Like Radiochan said, the buck stopped with him.
Editorializing:
Pilate was also probably afraid the Jews would riot, and it would be blamed on his decision, even if the caesar found no fault when Christ was brought before him.
With that said, it's both the fault of Pilate and the Jews.
No one is saying "jews are responsible for everything bad". Yes, some people go overboard, but how are people supposed to argue their point if this is your strawman contention.
What are people saying, specifically? You'll find that if you answer that, then you'll get plenty of people explaining why that assertion is apt.
>because constantly blaming the joooooooooooooooos for shit you do anyway is tiresome Where is this happening? Can you give the class an example? If it's so tiresome, why spend time on a website that's rife with it?
@SAKURARadiochan@alchemy@sickburnbro You claim to read your Bible, yet you clearly need to re-read Matthew 27. >>roman procurator puts you up on a cross with KING OF THE JEWS written above your head Matthew 27:24 >When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.”
>>roman soldiers gamble for your clothes Matthew 27:54 >So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
>>roman soldiers guard your tomb Matthew 27:62-66 >On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come [p]by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.” 65Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.” 66So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.
@SAKURARadiochan@alchemy@sickburnbro >Hmmm, should I let these horrible people start another revolt which will cause the loss of hundreds or thousands of Roman lives, disruption to the area, my own life for failing to keep the peace, and damage the empire, or should I let them self-govern as I've been ordered and let them sacrifice one of their own? There's no way to really see that as Pilate being the bad guy here without bad faith (jewish) interpretation.
@s2208@Spingebill@alchemy the game is to make it obvious they are forcing you to make a statement and make it as pointless as you can and force them to accept a statement less than they want.
