That’s because the Blair witch project is an actual good horror movie with a well crafted atmosphere, something he is unable to comprehend

@tomey @ChristiJunior @mushroom_soup it's funny you mention that, I have always contended that it holds up to exactly one viewing, but the first viewing is very effective. For different reasons though, the cinema verite is still there but it's just boring to watch it twice, it's like a shadow. Not putting down your opinion, it's a divisive movie, many people found it boring and stupid when it came out. -

@ChristiJunior @mushroom_soup I watched BWP somewhat recently and it stil holds up. It really makes you believe it is real and unscripted. Apparently, they really did get lost in the woods while filming so that definitely lends some authenticity to their performances. -

@mushroom_soup I guess people like to hate on the BWP because it's easy to mock, and because it almost feels like "cheating" that a movie with such a laughably low budget made such bank, but I also found it a genuinely effective and creepy movie. It's the kind of movie that really turns your imagination against you and makes the unseen horror the scariest of all. It also taps into that primal fear of being lost in the woods, and unwittingly wandering further and further down the path to your doom.
On a somewhat related note, I watched another, very different horror movie called The Witch a whole ago. While good and well-made, I have to say that the times it actually *showed* the titular Witch were usually among the LEAST scary parts. Definitely made me appreciate BWP's approach even more. -

@sun @ChristiJunior @mushroom_soup maybe multiple viewings are ok if you space them roughly 25 years apart. dilbert 1 likes this. -

@tomey @ChristiJunior @sun i like it a lot and i never thought it was real. i just love the atmosphere and realisticness of the acting. they didn’t actually have a script you know, they were left in the woods with the cameras and directions about what the general plot would be for each day, and then they were instructed to ad-lib the actual dialogue
