     @kaia @hakui i use fastmail and protonmail. protonmail has now integrated on-demand email address generation into their password manager product, but i don't use it because i use bitwarden.

     @kaia @hakui many domain providers offer something like that but it's actually configured on a mail server. your domain DNS settings tell everyone which other server is responsible to deliver mail for that domain, so if you run the server or a service offers it, they can just deliver all incoming mail to the same inbox. fastmail offers explicit catch-all, proton does not i think, but you can achieve it by having an in-between mail relay that is run by your domain registrar (that only forwards mail to your actual address), many offer that service.

     @kaia @hakui the advantage is that you can actually just make something up on the spot, no need to have your password manager ready, so when the carpet trader tells you 'plz gib email' you can just write 'carpet@kaia.klub'

     @lain @kaia @hakui Our domain host (UK2.net) used to allow this, but stopped ten years (or more) ago.
     Although this allowed users (inc. me) to invent email addresses like your “carpet@” example, spammers did the same, by adding their own prefix@ to UK2-hosted domain names.

     @lain @kaia @smug they should not do it because by the standard, anything before the @ symbol is opaque to the sender, and + is just a convention (X.511 uses a complex slash system) of course that doesn't matter at all in the real world. I use the catchall because a lot of systems now refuse emails with a + in the name because they're rats.
     
     My grandfather used this trick before I was born to catch who was sending him junk mail. Whenever he signed up for anything he used a different middle name and he kept it in a notebook. Then when he got junk mail he knew who sold his name.

     got mostly everything moved, if there wasn't an option to change it in the UI an email exchange sufficed
     
     only one (a bank) requires going down physically to update it w (will do that Later)
     
     as for f*cebook and the adobe, yeah i don't think i'll be porting those over to the new address
