     1.) France wants the lead
     2.) France still has some scars from being taken by Germans in WWII
     3.) the nuclear arms in France cost a fucking lot of money - so at least others (german) should fund it

     PS: the US here only has some bombs meant to stop Russian tanks for some days until heavy airlift brings troops from the US to Europe. Thats the Idea.

     @darnell the (US driven) European defence strategy in the past WWII years was always that European forces only can cover the first days. Predicted times of units to survive here in Germany are like 30min after first shoot. That's what the soldiers are being told!

     The deal always was: US is granted usage of our bases and so to gain worldwide operation capabilities. And the US on the other side grants our security.

     Hint: Trump should not break the US side of the deal... there might be a cost.

     @schnedan I wish I could believe Trump would not abandon NATO, but he repeatedly stated he would not defend Europe if they were attacked by Russia 🇷🇺 if they were delinquent on their military obligations.

     Trump is a liar, but he is a politician & will do crazy things to appease his crazy fan base.

     @J_aa_p @schnedan I know the info is probably classified, but I assumed NATO boasted powerful nukes that would rival most nuclear weapons in Russia’s 🇷🇺 arsenal.

     We have plenty of “convential” weapons that can stop tanks—like spent Uranium munitions which may have used by the United States 🇺🇸 against tanks in Iraq 🇮🇶. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/19/us-depleted-uranium-weapons-civilian-areas-iraq
