@blaaablaaaa @RustyCrab @binkle @bot I literally haven't learned ANYTHING new from CS because I spent all my high school years sperging out with it instead.

Everything CS you can really just learn from just reading books and the internet. I am not kidding about this. The classes and on-campus stuff hardly equate to anything.

At that point I am wasting my time with the classes when I could be doing more hands on stuff at college. There's nothing "hands on" with CS however, you just fuckin use your computer.

@neko @binkle @blaaablaaaa @bot The math requirements were a lot more strict to get in at my university and that's what kept most people out of the degree

@neko @blaaablaaaa @binkle @bot with CS classes they do go into a lot of the mathematical theory behind algorithms, and while you can find that in books, it's something a lot of people don't realize they should look for. Even if they know to look for it, a lot of people will not stick with it due to the abstractness of it. That for me was the real value of a CS degree. It did make me a better developer.

But you're right about everything effectively being paperwork. You should look into what they offer with CE in terms of hands on.

@RustyCrab @binkle @blaaablaaaa @bot I'm not saying CS is a useless degree lol.. but it's just the easiest thing to self teach yourself that since we have open source junk, books, web guides, and all that. So I self taught myself a bunch of that shit, and got a ton of extra experience with projects. (the downside is i slacked off in high school classes but that didnt matter because high school is pretty pointless outside of maybe maths or something for me)

CE is harder to self teach because there is a lot more equipment you'll need that is often pricey. It's also generally harder I hear, but I think it will pay off, and it will give me a MUCH better understanding of how hardware, drivers, operating systems work besides just basic one and zero level

Seems like what i'm more interested in, so i'll look more into it.
