@neko @blaaablaaaa @binkle @bot with CS classes they do go into a lot of the mathematical theory behind algorithms, and while you can find that in books, it's something a lot of people don't realize they should look for. Even if they know to look for it, a lot of people will not stick with it due to the abstractness of it. That for me was the real value of a CS degree. It did make me a better developer.
But you're right about everything effectively being paperwork. You should look into what they offer with CE in terms of hands on.
