   A veterinary epidemiologist named Andrew Bowman at Ohio State was impatient with the FDA and lack of data on the H5N1 outbreak, so he took a road trip and bought milk in 10 states. 58 of the 150 commercial milk products contained enough traces of viral RNA to light up a PCR test, which suggests the H5N1 outbreak is far more widespread than the US government is letting on.

     Pasteurization likely inactivates the virus, but people also do stupid stuff like drink unpasteurized milk, and we've also got a ton of human beings working closely with these ~10 million animals. Seems very likely to me at this point that this virus jumps to humans. We should be doing everything possible to mass manufacture vaccine, not for avian/poultry use, but for the human population.

     Covid was the dress rehearsal and we failed it, miserably. I don't know what will come of H5N1, but everything we know is very concerning and we aren't seeing enough "urgency of now" from governmental sources in averting/mitigating what could be a very high consequence epidemic if it gets into humans and gains transmission fitness there.

     Reminder; @djsumdog doesn't care that he's wrong. he doesn't want to learn about why he's wrong, and has been persistently wrong throughout the whole pandemic. He is not interested in the truth, or truth-seeking generally. He's totally OK with his falsehoods harming and killing children. He is dangerously misinformed, and doubles down on being wrong when challenged. It's not just that he doesn't understand how he's wrong about PCR tests, and the extent of validity of their use, it's much deeper than that.

     How do you know damage was from COVID and not the vaccine?
     
     Look man ... I guess we're just at an impass. May the gods, if they exist, judge us to the degree we did the best we could.
     
     You keep having fun in your dimension and I'll stay in mind. My value is in the friends I keep and riding my mountain bike and not getting caught up in the insanity of this world. COVID literally matters to no one anymore except the most religiously devout. You are religious (as am I). We don't get to chose not to be religious, only which religion we follow. I prefer it when you mute me, because I try not to censor people and it's better for the entire fediverse when you close off your mind and take yourself out of the conversation.

     I got pulled into evangelical Christianity from 96~02; born again, mission trips, the whole deal. I kinda turned away from it in what's now called "the new atheism" movement, although I didn't go to "Reason Rallies" or read Dawkins or any of that shit; I just had fun at the meetups.
     
     I was a little annoyed by evangelicals for a while, but as I've gotten older, I've come to realize the massive importance that modern Christianity has on western culture (and by modern I mean like the past 200~400 years .. it has changed a lot).
     
     My sister is still a strong fundamentalist Christians, and I have close friends who are reformed, evangelical, etc. I try to keep an open mind to it, but I doubt I'll ever believe in Jesus and the saints and all the prophets again.

     I like the idea of religion, but could never get behind the organized ones. They all seem like the middle east, very binary.
