     the man was the leader and head of the household.
     women knew their place and followed.

     feminism is the movement towards the egalitarian nature of men and women. they want equality and equity.

     feminists -even today- want a traditional man with all the responsiblities (provider and protector), but without the authority. this creates an imbalance in the relationship.
