@eriner I disagree with you on this. Superficially rising co2 helps plants and farms but it goes along with massive reduction in biodiversity. Like if you replaced an old growth forest with a giant ocean algae bloom

@sun you didn't finish the sentence.

      > A lot of the electric car industry is propped up by government subsidy... because they've discovered that burning fossil fuels is terraforming the Earth and would bring prosperity to the people they rule over.

      Can't have that.

I think there are too many confounding variables to claim that biodiversity reduction is a direct result of CO2 increases (and the combustion of fossil fuels).

Habitat destruction (and tangentially, the urban island effect) is more Occam's razor as far as I'm concerned.

@feld @sun Electric cars would also become more expensive because of plastics and transportation costs in that case. (Obviously neither of those are specific to electric cars, but they won't be immune.)

@jeffcliff @tk @sun yeah this is global, but USA explicitly does $20B according to many reports

      > Calculating the cost of U.S. subsidies for the fossil fuel industry is complex because the incentives stretch across the U.S. tax code, but estimates range from $10 to $50 billion per year.

A petrostate. When government and O&G industry no longer function as separate entities, as happens in places like saudi arabia, iraq, alberta & saskatchewan.
