in their eternal greed, they've ruined the telephone as a means of communication
all incoming calls that have not been scheduled in advance can be immediately dismissed as spam. it's never going to be anything of value, just some retard trying to sell you an extended warranty scam.
furthermore, all outgoing calls that have not been scheduled in advance with a specific person can be assumed will never accomplish anything of value and most likely never even reach a human. want to talk to the bank about a suspicious transaction on your debit card? too fucking bad, you get a robot who will helpfully offer to read you the balance of your checking account and then hang up.-

djsumdog (djsumdog@djsumdog.com)'s status on Friday, 05-Apr-2024 00:34:40 JST djsumdog I use to talk to people all the time on the phone in high school. Now I hate talking to people on the phone and prefer text or hang out in real life. I know people my age and older who really prefer phone calls. It's not an age thing. It's more rare for people to do calls, but there are a lot of people in every age range who prefer them.
I think one of the big reasons I hate calls is the cellphone. With analog landlines, there was nearly no delay. Communication felt instant. Most still had a digital conversion in the loop, but the delay was unnoticeable.
Today, the lag is always noticeable. All land lines are really shitty VoIP. Even with Zoom, Skype, whatever you use, there's a few ms delay that did not exist in the 90s. I fucking hate it.

Phone conversations are synchronous

I would still not get a fone number. -

djsumdog (djsumdog@djsumdog.com)'s status on Friday, 05-Apr-2024 00:54:59 JST djsumdog My last company where I was in office didn't even issue people desk phones. We got USB headsets to use with a Cisco VoIP thing .. and I never used it because I switched to Linux and never bothered to setup an SIP app with it, and they moved all SIP/VoIP to Teams anyway.
