@tchambers@fediversenews@spreadmastodon Thank you for being an important voice of reason and insight during this important moment, Tim. You're so right that a lot of people got a glimpse of the future today.
@tchambers@fediversenews@spreadmastodon I like how concrete this feels. It’s the same strategy Bluesky has been using, successfully in my opinion: show end users the concrete benefits of decentralization, instead of making decentralization a feature in itself.
Most people don’t care.
But when you give them an opportunity to choose their algorithmic feeds, their moderation, or to reach a larger ecosystem, the theoretical benefits become very real.
@tchambers it was a decent day one. I am worried that the invisible replies are going to really confuse many people. I hope that get that done relatively quickly.
From #IndieWebSocial at the end of Week One of Threads federating.
LOTS of new Threads user content being boosted, shared, etc. No taxing of our server, performance, etc.
No signs of harassment or toxic content & the rate of ANY tickets of any kind to our 11.3K users here. Not one ticket related to any Threads.net user thus far.
Our server is strictly in the mid-sized but even so we are about 1% of the Fedi, a decent sample rate of the whole.
Am sure that challenges and problems to solve will appear along the way. On both sides of the threads side and the current fediverse side. Will report what I see along the way from our server's POV.
@tchambers@fediversenews@spreadmastodon This is great! To be fair though, threads-folk can't see or interact with anything on this side of the Fediverse yet which is where we will likely encounter a lot of said "harassment” / toxicity but I'm optimistic about it all. I think threads users and thus threads-borne content is overwhelmingly benign / positive and more crucially, we on this side have plenty of experience dealing with bad actors who may show up whether from threads or elsewhere. 😃
