??? 妛彁 :xf_nyxsigil: :xf_nyxdisapproving: (nyx@social.xenofem.me)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Mar-2024 05:20:38 JST ??? 妛彁 :xf_nyxsigil: :xf_nyxdisapproving: @larsfrommars as I understand it, a lot of the accusations of her being a terf come from some really specious reasoning about how the fact that Federici has dared to critique the Butlerian line of feminist thought means that she must be a terf, and I strongly resent that accusation. not to do a "speaking as an X" as if that can substitute for reading a text critically... but speaking as I guess something of a transfeminist theorist person (lol), I've been influenced far more by materialist and Marxist feminism (alongside cyberfem and xenofem which imo are related tendencies) and felt like they spoke more to my self-interests and my experiences than any performance-based Butlerian theories. I don't wanna completely throw out Butler but I think her ideas pretty much inherently lend themselves to feminism being recuperated by libfem, because theories of performance and representation reduce all of the material realities of gender stuff down to being semiotic games. it just doesn't sit right with me from a Deleuzian perspective either.
but idk I'm eepy and barely managing to put together a coherent post. I just extremely dislike the implication from the people who have accused her of being a terf that being critical of Butler means being anti-trans. Butler does not speak for me at all. fuck her, in fact. -

georgia (georgia@netzsphaere.xyz)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Mar-2024 05:20:38 JST georgia @nyx @larsfrommars Butler sucks and performativity is neoliberal crap. Existence is experience, not performance. Re TERFiness I reject the notion that recognizing womens oppression being rooted in the burden of reproduction (materialist/marxist feminism) means that trans women are excluded from feminism. They're considered worthless or whores in the way women who aren't mothers/madonnas are cast. Also trans feminism is compatible with existential (de beauvoirian) feminism (lived experience as a woman with an individually varying degree of female socialization) whereas identitarian queer theory is essentialist/idealist, asserting some sort of feminine geist along a spectrum with a masculine dyad. My last take is that radfems have a greater likelihood of destroying gender by including a caste of people who inherently challenge it. Or at least, should be challenging it if they weren't so desperate to self-validate with regressive ideas about gender roles. I blame internet brainrot. -

:labrys-chaostar: ØtherwØrlder :labrys-chaostar: (0utside0utsider@social.xenofem.me)'s status on Wednesday, 20-Mar-2024 07:17:32 JST :labrys-chaostar: ØtherwØrlder :labrys-chaostar: @nyx @larsfrommars @nae @georgia i have other context for the federici terf accusations, and a very important follow up! some of the grounded terf accusations about Federici come from talks she gave around 2012 where people asked her why trans people were not included in her analysis of the origins of modern patriarchy, and she answered by basically saying that trans people were a modern invention and that control of biological reproduction was the actual site of oppression, and gender was just an outcome, so trans people were just an outcome of this system, and were only relevant In a modern context art interruption of reproduction (This infamously resulted in one of her talks being idk sabotaged? By a crew of anti-civ gender nihilists, who basically took over the talk and turned it into a shouting match till people just gave up and people left or kept arguing till exhaustion)
!!!~However~!!!
at some point within a few years after that interaction, she had changed her stance around trans people, having talked with a lot of trans feminists and indigenous trans people about trans peoples role in the patriarchal capitalist system of reproduction and the role of trans extermination in colonialism and genocide.
She's gone on to name and include trans women in her analysis of global capitalist patriarchy and the sphere of reproduction in talks she has given
I had a chance to ask her directly about how her analysis and framework has changed wrt trans women at a talk she gave several years back, and her answer (summarized) was that she had come to see the oppression of trans women as being a central component of patriarchal reproduction, and that that trans women occupy a position not unlike the lumpenproletariat in the realm of reproduction. She also connected the reaction against trans people globally to the modern day witch hunts, and to how restrictions on abortion and transness seem to go hand and hand. It was a very welcome answer
Some follow up conversations after are where my view that many pre-capitalist modes of reproduction involved implicit material bonds of what we might now call (with a limited framework) solidarity between women both trans&cis +non-binary peoples in the forms of maintained knowledge basis of medicines and capacities to navigate body changes of all sorts, given that almost all of the techniques for inducing hormone and bodily transformations also can modify any hormonal effect, such as controlling menstruation, modifying fertility, inducing abortions, or easing elements of menopause, not to mention literally everything else hormones regulate; and that this is why so many trans women are priestesses of fertility goddesses or have sacred roles similar to that of "wise women" in many indigenous social orders; and thus, that rupturing this social form bonding mutual flows of support is always implicitly part of the colonization and ethno/genocide of social orders by patriarchal capitalist modernity (and is part of the dynamic process of modernities construction that creates/produces the divisions between trans and cis women)
Truly I think we see echo's of this, I mean, a nontrivial amount of trans women are abortion dulas. Now if only we could convince more cis women to also be transition dulas....
