      @af2 the "expression" as the defining characteristic of the first amendment is gay, and is gonna go.

      @shortstories @af2 "freedom of reach" is a fake term trying to salami slice 1st amendment. You were always allowed to hand out news of any sort as long as you weren't disturbing the peace.

      Shadowbanning people is the same as refusing people to ability to hand our their magazines in NYC

      @sickburnbro @af2

      Only the mainstream media outlets can reach large numbers of people with false information

      Freedom of reach is denied to alternative viewpoints which get freedom of speech in name only

      For those who oppose the ADL agenda they get Freedom of speech but not freedom of reach

      @af2 @shortstories well, there was a supreme court case about this, where (iirc) you can have private land but if it is a public space, like a sidewalk in front of a business, you can't regulate speech on it even if it is your land.

      The problem is social media is ultimately a compact between a private company and the public. Rules about discourse need to be clear and concise, and it's been proven that they aren't capable of setting these rules.

      @sickburnbro @shortstories Private company though. Do you want "bake the cake, bigot" with your "publish the tweet, Elon"? The internet was never a public place (thank god), access to it relies on corporations agreeing to connect with you. We need to stop crying about how unfair things are and start building our own network out.

      @shortstories @dictatordave @af2 well, it depends on what you're trying to do with it. If you want to be streaming nonstop 4k netflix, no you can't do any of that.

      If you want to share a few spicy memes a day, sure.

      @dictatordave @af2 @sickburnbro

      Could a single working middle class person afford to build the infrastructure on one person's income after living expenses

      How much physical space would the infrastructure take

      How well could the infrastructure be guarded from the government finding it and destroying it with their high tech weapons

      Could working middle class people who are not governments nor corporations build their own isp so that if governments deactivated every isp that is owned by a government or corporation then they could still use the internet

      @shortstories @af2 @sickburnbro they wouldn't even need to do that, just hit up a couple of the isp's, just verizon and comcast for example, and you'd black out a shit ton of people

      and right now there's absolutely nothing stopping the isp's from doing as they're told, we simply have a handshake from them that they wont go full on state utility whenever instructed

      @af2 @sickburnbro

      How can you build your own internet connection in such a way that the government can not turn off the internet?

      Let's say the government took over all the websites people go to like godaddy where people register their websites and told them to deactivate every single regustered website

      Could people still access the internet by some sort of alternative structure they built or would that be the end of the internet?
