@Moon @crunklord420 looks like Optimism started using blobs today. same fees as polygon pos
don't look at polygon zkevm it's not the same as polygon pos

I can't believe the cryptards are still at it after all of the massive scams.

Are they as trash as lighting is for bitcoin?

@1iceloops123 @Moon @crunklord420 people who use ETH are using these networks called rollups. they get autistically enthusiastic about rollups like you would about Gnome or KDE or whatever. blobs make the rollups have lower fees to use ETH

@goatmeal @Moon @crunklord420 what does blobs do
-
Embed this notice
@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @goatmeal imo way better than lightning but multiple blockchains in one wallet continue to be a usability nightmare for many people. this is because though there is a few companies dominating the crypto wallet software and they feel no obligation to improve

What are the trade offs that make it cheaper to use? They must be p serious otherwise they would just make it part of normal eth right?
-

@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @Moon nope. they are much better. I wish bitcoin people would build a rollup but sadly they are all retarded

I remember some nerds were trying to get me to use a certain crypto wallet but you didn't actually have control over your crypto, someone else did. I forgot the term for that.

@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @goatmeal it's mostly just a stupid way of sharding the network, if everyone moved to a sidechain its transactions would become expensive too. when you transfer back to ethereum from a sidechain though they use tricks to bundle and compress transactions and it does actually save cost substantially, but it takes seven days to clear instead of a few minutes.

Yes! That was it. Anyway having three layers to buy some coffee or whatever is too complicated for most ppl and I bet it sucks to use irl, so I still don't understand what problem they're trying to solve.

@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @Moon custodial lightning wallet. like wallet of satoshi, alby, strike, cash app
-

@bot @1iceloops123 @crunklord420 @goatmeal also like goatmeal said or implied, they're more centralized than ethereum so they can make it less expensive. however many are working on becoming less centralized.

That's what I understood lightning basically is, it just groups transactions so its cheaper on the bitcoin network. Not sure if that's right.

@Moon @bot @1iceloops123 @crunklord420 optimistic rollups have a 7 day window. they set it up so you assume that all txs on the rollup are valid and anyone can challenge them for a reward. zk rollups use a zk proof that doesn't need to be challenged and you can remove funds from them without a big delay. the zk proofs use a lot of compute to generate
-

@goatmeal @1iceloops123 @bot @crunklord420 i believe the tradeoff there is yeah, intense computation. also i think you can dos the current zk networks with bogus proofs, at least until they have more than one prover

@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @goatmeal lightning is its own thing, it is overcomplicated and took years to be workable at all.

@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @goatmeal imo crypto has failed to serve its original purpose, to act directly like money. people got so excited about ethereum that they forgot its more expensive than cc vendor fees to transact, and that optmistic rollups take longer to settle than banks in the 1980s.

That's because.. it's the same currency. Imagine the stress of watching multiple conversion rates on a daily basis and praying some tech nigger doesn't obliterate your life savings with some scam or some government doesn't ban a certain crypto coin because they allow transactions between ppl that say a guy with a p*nis isn't a woman (fact check: ✅)

@bot @crunklord420 @1iceloops123 @Moon I have credit cards on four different networks in my physical wallet, and I pay them with a fifth network. it's been made so smooth that most people don't even have to think about it, apart from the occasional "we don't take american express" issues. the problem is how do you make room for lots of people to use the same crypto network without fees exploding.

@bot @1iceloops123 @crunklord420 @goatmeal i am having a ton of fun and many professional and intellectual challenges doing crypto but the reason its supposed to exist is decentralize money and it doesn't do that

@Moon @bot @crunklord420 @goatmeal what bugs me people treat crypto like stocks. like sure stocks might be cool but i'd rather spend it on things

I think it'd be good if that were possible, but it's just not. Governments aren't going to give up control over currency, and if they actually did, it would probably be chaos tbh.

Large cash transactions are already against the law in the EU.

thoughts on a cashless society?
-

It'd be good for government since all transactions would be traceable, it would increase tax revenue obv. Ppl with money bear most of the tax burden anyway so that would actually impact the middle class the most.

I mean what if the government got rid of cash entirely and everything was done via cards/credit. Would that be good or bad and why.

@1iceloops123 @Moon @bot @crunklord420 the only thing that could slot into "spend it on things" and not suck would be some kind of stable/flatcoin that doesn't suck. and that probably doesn't exist yet or is still an experiment barely anyone knows about.

They're literally working towards making everything digital, the government doesn't care if poor ppl die and suffer if the internet goes down.

@bot @crunklord420 @colonelj @1iceloops123 @Moon banknotes and physical coins are still needed in case the internet goes down. not even like an EMP event, just like you're at the hairdresser and their modem overheated or whatever
