    #Owncast music streamers!

    On New Year's Day Parade, we were chatting how to find each other on the directory... Maybe using a tag, like this? https://directory.owncast.online/tags/bonk

    Although I haven't YET submitted one of my many #bonkwave tracks to a comp, I like #bonk as a tag! What do yous think?

      @ety @gabek @ke7zum @lislegaard @meljoann Honestly, that'd be a huge, huge thing to me. I'd definitely highlight this in the new newsletter, too.

      @gabek @ke7zum @lislegaard @meljoann

      Maybe a good starting point would be to assemble a list of all the neat community tools that have been built for owncast and look for gaps, start building POCs from there?

      @gabek @ke7zum @lislegaard @meljoann I think that's plenty respectable.

      Though monetization is probably the absolute lowest priority for me, personally, I think it's probably something that's going to be top of mind for people looking to branch out from Twitch, and they're all going to have their own ideas on how to monetize.

      Generally, agreed though, we can achieve a _lot_ with the integration options in place today, especially the external actions.

      @meljoann @lislegaard @ety @ke7zum I don’t mean to stick my nose into conversations that are organic and don’t involve me, buttt… there are certain things I’m never going to unilaterally decide for everyone. Payments are one of them. I’m not going to say “Everyone needs to use PayPal, deal with it” or something. That’s why there are no payment support in Owncast at all. I’d rather have nothing than to force something. Some want Bitcoin, some want Stripe, some want PayPal, some want Ko-fi, some want OpenCollective, etc.

      So if the Owncast community ever came up with a solution that was useful and flexible for everyone, I’d really love to hear it. I want to offer these donation options to streamers. I just don’t know what the answer is. The best answer I came up with was the “external UI” buttons so you can embed payment forms within Owncast itself.

      @lislegaard @ety @ke7zum @gabek yeah definitely, I think the promise of a side income is what keeps a lot of people on Twitch.

      I had an idea a while ago for something that would parse commands like !cheer in the chat, so that people could pre-pay a little bit to the server’s Opencollective or something. And then you could see from the time the command was issued which streamer to apportion the “bits” to.

      But I have no idea how to code that 😆

      @meljoann @ety @ke7zum @gabek

      Oh yes I was part of the glide crew!

      Very interesting to see how this will turn out after a while.

      One thing I really like with Twitch btw is how it is so natural for people to donate. Not just technically but also culturally. But that is another rabbit hole I guess.

      I still like the word glide thought! Gliding between likeminded servers!

      @ety @ke7zum @gabek oh interesting! Well I guess if we all use the “group tag” idea we were discussing, that means we’re OK to be raided?

      Also, I remember a late night convo on NYD about using “Glide” or something instead of “Raid” haha! Sounds friendlier 😆 But will people know what we mean?!

      @meljoann @ke7zum the last thing I need to do is add a consent modal, such as "The streamer is attempting you RAID you over to <url>. Do you want to go along?"

      Right now it just yeets viewers over on streamer request, which squicks me out a bit. I was saving the modal for last because it's going to be a PITA to shim in.

      (And @gabek don't sell yourself or the project short; the front-end is plenty polished!)

      @gabek @ke7zum @meljoann oof, and I just finished writing a mega sketchy raid handler for my instance.

      Actually, it's not oof at all, I love to see it! I feel bad every time I bolt some sketchy js onto the otherwise beautiful polish of OwnCast.

      @meljoann @ke7zum For a bit of forward thinking that’s kind of on the roadmap: https://owncast.online/roadmap

      A future goal is to allow Owncast servers to follow other Owncast servers. And then that opens the technical door to however “raids” might work, because we now know what streams would be available to be raided to. I have no idea of the specifics of how it would work, but at least the technology behind it I kind of have worked out. The design of it all, and user-side of things is a huge question mark though. I’m not sure what a user flow of an owncast raid would consist of. Though there’s some previous conversation here:

      @ke7zum I think it could really work, if a whole group of us choose a tag! Then, whenever we feel like watching something, or we’re finished our stream and would like to “raid into” our friend’s channel, we could just use the directory?

      Maybe one for music, one for games, one for coding streams? Those are the three categories I like to watch, anyway :)

      @meljoann That sounds like a good idea. What such a thing even work? And what if more than one person uses that #.I'mNotFullyAwakeAtTheMomentSoI'mHopingMyIdeaOrMyQuestionMakesSomeKindOfSense.HappyFriday. I keep drawing a blank when it comes to the own cast directory though. I don't actually have that book marked in my browser. That might have to change as I keep forgetting to tune into some very cool stuff.

      @ety @gabek @ke7zum @lislegaard @meljoann Personally, I'm quite anti-GH, but I think the right answer is to have this up in any flexible way you feel is right. In a lot of ways, I think it's stronger to have it exist outside the Owncast org; it's more about "how to make your Owncast instance the best it can be", which I feel is what we, as a community, should discuss and share outside of the core org.

      @roadriverrail @gabek @ke7zum @lislegaard @meljoann I'm thinking something like this, but for owncast: https://github.com/clonemeagain/awesome-osticket

      Would this make sense to list under the owncast org in GitHub? Is GH even the right option?
