   The "Karen" meme was an interesting evolution because it originally didn't have to do anything with race and then simultaneously a dozen "news" agencies reported it as a white woman thing. The idea that only white people are rude to customer service is obviously moronic to anyone who has actually worked customer service, something I am assuming that a lot of journalists avoided by being airdropped by their wealthy parents into propaganda jobs for the mass media.

     @Moon it's not just that Karen's are rude to customer service it's the way they do it and how they look when they do it. We already have a word for black people that do it their own way.

     @Moon also a Karen isn't just customer service. From what I remember it was almost always a white woman calling the cops on someone for just being there.

     @Moon @triodug anecdotally, as far back as 2014 I heard the term Karen to specifically imply "suburban upper middle class bmw minivan white"

     @vriska @triodug it's not clear to me why a racialized term is needed for extremely demanding "I want to talk to your manager" people but if it started that way eg "sassy black woman" then I accept it but I just noticed that the term was around for a long time before it got grabbed and turned into a lecture about whiteness.

     @Moon @triodug the problem is that it became "all whites are Karens" which completely ignores the fact that Karens behave a very particular way, and that particular way is most often the result of suburban new money entitlement. Suburbs are by design predominantly white

     I recall "Keren" used to be basically shorthand for the phrase "I'd like to speak to the manager." Later that wierd fade-bob haircut become associated with it, and I think that's when the white association happened, because it was a popular white suburban mom kind of haircut.

     I've never been deep in the meme mines though, this could be a surface-level normie understanding of it.
