     @tradracist @DEERBLOOD @monsterislandcolonizer Depends which part of the empire and which part of the class system you're looking at. The upper classes, the land owners and colonial administrators did ship their women folk over with them. For a lot of the transported convicts and indented servants the death rates in their new world homes were astronomical. I've heard the numbers were something around 7 or 8 dead colonists for each surviving American which is why the plantation owners switched to a slave population of peoples already resistant to tropical diseases.

     @DEERBLOOD @monsterislandcolonizer The crossing might've been 60 days but how long were their tour-of-duty/indented servitude? They could be 7 years away from home easily. A lot would die before ever getting the chance of a white wife from home. And be honest with yourself, sooner or later a young man's standards drop to doing things they might later regret.
