    The martini is basically just a shot of gin or vodka in a fancy glass with a James Bond reference. It follows none of the rules about balancing flavors of sweet and bitter, or sweet and sour. It is a drink for alcoholics.

      @alex When I order a martini I need to specify that I would not like a glass of cold gin (or, worse, a glass of cold vodka), it's sad.

      @alex @judgedread Anyone who drinks vodka out of a shot glass is a faggot by default. You store your vodka in the freezer and drink it straight out of the bottle. Preferably before 9 AM. And while sitting in a folding chair on your front porch.

      @yockeypuck @alex >bartender ices up the glass, pours vermouth over the ice, swirls it around, set down. Puts two shots of gin in a shaker full of ice, shakes for 30 seconds, dumps ice / vermouth out of martini glass, pours gin over it. garnished with olive.
