     Tradesmen have never been in a position of high prestige. The most savvy tradesmen have been able to parlay their talent into independent business management & earn a upper-middle to lower-upper class income. The social prestige that tradesmen have attained is more often a product of their success in business than it is their exceptional talent in a trade alone.
     Plenty of normalfags have not yet fully realized that there are tons of worthless degrees available at colleges, and there are a glut of students graduating with these degrees. They still wrongly assume that college education will lead to a job with better income prospects than the trades.
     We know that reality is different. Many people still don't realize that average college grad will end up earning about the same if not less than an average tradesman--both of whom are only making a middle class income.
     In terms of prestige, it's not so much that tradesmen lost any prestige over time, it's that college grads aren't graduating into a place of prestige any more & wind up in a similar or lowlier place in life as tradesmen.

     @sickburnbro I’m in residential remodeling, and my little crew is recruited through Christian circles. My customers appreciate having workers at their house tgat aren’t terrifying ex-cons or pre-cons. they probably wouldn’t admit it, but deep down they like seeing clean-cut white guys show up. I’ll admit it took years to claw my way into this. some trades are not like this, stay out of roofing for example

     @Evil_Bender @hammerswinger the initial trade mexicans got into was drywall. Mainly because everyone hates the dust, but they do a bad job at that, and just hide it with spackle.
     
     But I've heard too many stories of people falling down stories to like roofing.

     I have roofed my own houses for 25 years because of the spic horde. This house the neighbor asked why, 2 years later he did his roof. Between the garbage they left, the flat tires he's gotten and them coming back a few times to fix it that's why. And they billed him like $7500! Our houses are almost identical I did mine for $2100 and that included the bourbon my buddy and I drank

     @sickburnbro @Evil_Bender I came up in carpentry working for a guy who did a lot of roofs. Good learning, but in my area the typical roofing company will unleash a small army of squats and bang out a large ish house roof in a single day. they’ll have their wives and gfs on the ground picking up, and passing materials. Hard to imagine a white crew doing tgat. No real reason they couldn’t. At Least the plumbers and electricians are white.

     @hammerswinger @Evil_Bender I'm sure it's not a big deal when you have a basic roof as well, but when you have dormers and stuff like that -- thats where the attention to detail matters, because sloppy work leads to leaky rooves.
