@feditips Has PeerTube worked out the terrible and criminal content issue? Last time I tried it, the amount of cp and other clearly criminal content that casually appeared was disturbing

FediTips has moved! (feditips@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 00:38:23 JST FediTips has moved! That's sort of like asking if Tim Berners-Lee has worked out the criminal content on the World Wide Web?
PeerTube isn't a centralised service, it's a piece of software that anyone can use to set up their own service.
Content on the internet is the responsibility of the person who hosts it and/or uploads it. It's nothing to do with the software that the server runs on.
If you see something illegal, report it to the authorities and they'll arrest the person hosting/uploading it.

PeerTube isn't some kind of centralised thing, it's thousands of totally independent sites.
Most of them don't host criminal stuff, and you can follow the nice ones without having anything to do with the criminal ones.

FediTips has moved! (feditips@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 00:49:44 JST FediTips has moved! That's exactly what I do on my site at https://fedi.video
It has lots of nice PeerTube channels, it blocks all the nasty channels and nasty servers.

Petra van Cronenburg (naturemc@mastodon.online)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 00:49:45 JST Petra van Cronenburg @feditips Sorry, but the people who have servers and instances in the Fediverse are responsible in first line. You see it when Mastodon instances f.e. isolate Nazi servers. Or the fediblock.

Petra van Cronenburg (naturemc@mastodon.online)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 00:57:30 JST Petra van Cronenburg @feditips @smeg That's ok but the other admins should do it, too. And as long as that is not made in an amount like Mastodon makes it, for me personally, it's no alternative. Let's agree that we have different opinions.
My first experiences with peertube were extremely bad. There was nothing blocked. In conversation permalink -

You can optionally include an image too, or just upload audio with a blank screen. There's also a planned "zero pixel" upload in the future, where there would just be the audio and no screen at all.
Some channels are just podcasts with the podcast's artwork as an image.(for example https://media.privacyinternational.org/c/podcast/videos).

J Miller (jmmaok@mastodon.online)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 01:16:19 JST J Miller At this point you are absolutely exemplifying the problem people point out about reasonable criticism being met by ridiculous blaming of the users.
If you want to write a useful tip, maybe something like: when trying out PeerTube, it’s important to start by subscribing only to sites you trust. It doesn’t have a server covenant like Mastodon.

FediTips has moved! (feditips@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 01:16:19 JST FediTips has moved! I'm not knocking safety or people who want more safety.
I set up https://fedi.video specifically so that people who want to explore PeerTube safely can do so.
I set up https://fedi.garden so people have a safe place to choose a server.
The part where we disagree is I don't think it is reasonable to single PeerTube out about this. It's a general problem on any type of internet server.

FediTips has moved! (feditips@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 26-Nov-2023 01:18:02 JST FediTips has moved! PeerTube doesn't even need this the way Mastodon does.
Mastodon automatically federates with all other servers. Admins have to choose to block a server.
PeerTube doesn't do this. It automatically blocks all other servers. Admins have to choose to allow other servers to federate.
In this sense, PeerTube is a lot safer than Mastodon.
