@ryanhoulihan He wants Israel to stop bombing Gaza civilians. What's wrong with that?

Kinda wish non-leftists saw this too. As a Canadian person, I never understood why some Dems think he's some kind of ultra-radical Satan/Che Guevara love child sent to destroy US Empire. Sigh. In Canada he'd be a middle of the road NDPer and nobody would be fainting about it.

idk there is no real take away here, do you want there to be a revolution?

wallabra 🇧🇷 (wallabra@bark.lgbt)'s status on Thursday, 16-Nov-2023 03:51:31 JST wallabra 🇧🇷 @ryanhoulihan okay, but, how feasible is it really for there to be a revolution in the United States this decade? And, all logistical concerns aside, how can we guarantee it won't be hijacked by a fascist like the Russian Revolution was?

wallabra 🇧🇷 (wallabra@bark.lgbt)'s status on Thursday, 16-Nov-2023 04:38:18 JST wallabra 🇧🇷 @ryanhoulihan Arguably, more. Look at how much progress we've already made! Civil rights movement, feminism, etc etc. And anticapitalist sentiment is only rising, especially amongst the new generations. I'm optimistic, with reason.

wallabra 🇧🇷 (wallabra@bark.lgbt)'s status on Thursday, 16-Nov-2023 04:48:36 JST wallabra 🇧🇷 @ryanhoulihan of these issues only two are actually worsening, wealth inequality (the inevitability of capitalism, accelerated by the legacy of neoliberals like Thatcher and Reagan) and climate change. And there is a new wave of anti trans and anti abortion pushback from Republicans, though it's much weaker outside of the United States. It is all horrible, horrible and genocidal, and even still I would say it would take a more cataclysmic event to trigger a revolution or anything like it.

wallabra 🇧🇷 (wallabra@bark.lgbt)'s status on Thursday, 16-Nov-2023 05:09:27 JST wallabra 🇧🇷 @ryanhoulihan the gains were made by radicals, for example they only listened to MLK because he was the more "moderate" alternative to Malcolm X who they (the establishment) were afraid of. All successful progressive change in the West is the combination of a moderate wing and a radical one to pressure the establishment. Step by step we walk a mile. This isn't revolution.
And while climate change is inevitable and at this point impossible to fully stop in our lifetimes, we will still have an aftermath to work with. Barren, sad, whatever.
If you want to help secure better change for the future, organize with your union, promote forms of parallel power like mutual aid networks, etc etc. Not revolutions. How are you going to guarantee a revolution won't be hijacked by red fash like a modern day Lenin?

wallabra 🇧🇷 (wallabra@bark.lgbt)'s status on Thursday, 16-Nov-2023 05:32:25 JST wallabra 🇧🇷 @ryanhoulihan what do you mean hijacked capitalism? MLK still left a positive change in the world, one that we take for granted today. Even if he was murdered (and he was, by the CIA) that does not change that it worked. It worked. Society was objectively improved by it.
What does worry me is that unionization had such a huge drop after the end of the New Deal. It's slowly climbing back up, though.
Also, no, gen Z are not more conservative than millenials. Where did you get that from? From talking to me? Is not being a revolutionary Leninist equable to being a comservative capitalist scumbag now?
You're very pessimistic in society's ability to phase out capitalism. It won't go down without a fight, sure. But in acting like nothing matters unless it's in the service of an eventual revolutionary struggle, you throw out the baby with the bathwater; eg. MORE trans people will die if you concede a national election to Republicans just because you (rightfully) dislike Biden.

Seriously, it takes a lot of courage to speak up. There's a lot of personal & professional risk. But talking about liberation or even alleviation of suffering of people is never popular to those in power. Those dedicated to remaining ignorant and comfortable will always side w/ the powerful. I'm leaving that arena & will never return.
I'm just lucky my employer and coworkers don't follow me on my socials & don't care what I say off the clock.
