True, he shouldn't have cared tbh. But he was still afraid the frogs and the anglos would come and rescue the Republic. Even if they were busy with Germany at the time
@branman65@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@lelouchebag There was a pretty real concern of that. Best criticisms of Franco are that he didn't ensure proper successors or maintain requirements to not have things to turn to democracy. I am disappointed that all these people who fought communism ignored the poisonous taint of propaganda on the population as a lingering thing.
@BowsacNoodle@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@lelouchebag at least his ideologically similar neighbors the Salazarians had the lame ass excuse of dealing with the angolan niggers and hippy revolution, despite not just killing all the niggers and hippies and letting them win. Franco picked a neoliberal king
There is more to that. He had a successor called Carrero Blanco, but the guy got yeeted by ETA (Basque nationalists) a few years before he died. If you look up the Spanish Space project, Carrero Blanco was the first one to join.
After Franco died, even if the government tried to keep things orderly everything was in shambles since they knew they couldn't maintain the whole thing up without a figurehead like Franco. Seeing the writing on the wall, the high commanding generals of the army contacted the exiled political parties and handed over a deal: accept our terms and we will allow you to have democracy. And everyone agreed except the Basque. These conditions were things like no persecution of military personnel for past charges, the unity of the territory of Spain and that the county has a king.
And maybe you don't know, but a few years after democracy came there was an attempted coup d'etat carried out by a man named Antonio Tejero. The army took to the streets bu the king pleaded to them to go back to their bases and so they did.
Glad to help. After all, i did a series of articles about the spanish civil war and i had to read a lot about the politics of the time, even if the war and the shenanigans that took place on both sides were the most interesting part.
@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@branman65@lelouchebag Wild. How's the situation for The Basque these days? Any nationalist or independence movement remaining? Is it analogous to like Quebec in Canada, or more like TX in America if you're familiar with either of those?
Yeah, very surprising to know that he killed his older brother when he was a kid. But i mean, playing with guns is something that runs in the family. One of his grandsons blew his foot while fiddling with a shotgun.
>picked a Neoliberal king Jokes on you, the last king killed his elder brother that Franco was mentoring to be his successor. And so, he had to take what was left
@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@lelouchebag also opposing Dollfuss like he was the great warrior resisting Bolshevism is so fucking cringe. Spanish Marxists never met a hard man until they met the ones that shot them
Kind of. After all, when the commies got into power in 36 they could do as they pleased. They even robbed the prez of the republic at gunpoint twice with no repercussion. The conservatives in Spain at that time were completey at their mercy and they knew that if they fought back, they would be the ones getting punished for it.
He was an opportunist. Lemme tell you he didn't joined the uprising until a few weeks before it was carried out despite Leutenant Mola (the brains of the operation) and General Sanjurjo (who would have been put in charge) buttering him up for more tha a year.
He was very disliked and mistrusted by all other generals. But because he had most of the army under his command and got some decisive victories (again, opportunist) he got brownie points
If you knew more about Franco, you would like him even less. After all, he ended up as the leader of the national side because everyone else before him died (both in airplane accidents). And even if several generals said to not let him take the lead, everyone else let him.
Ok, I'll do an abridged version: -political nepotism (public services only hired party members and increase their wages) -Illegal tolls (many towns had armed men asking travellers for money) -Destruction of religious imagery and works of art -Destruction and/or occupation of churches and convents -Murder of priests and nuns -Desecration of graves and unearthing of corpses (dug up bodies of priests and nuns to shame members of the clergy) -Land expropiation (the government expropiated a lot of farmland and handed it over to farmers. The land was too small for them to even live off the land and they left most of it untended) -Exponential increase in wages (government increased farmhand wages by 5, meaning that landowners couldn't afford to pay them or even break even selling their produce. As a result, farmers had to ask relatives for help with work which led to violence against certain families) -The two previous things also caused a famine. -Targeted violence against known right wing people -Targeted destruction and censorship of right wing papers and publications (more than 30 newspaper agencies were destroyed in roughly 6 months) -Targeted arrests of right wing people involved in violent acts even when they were defending themselves -Targeted expropiation and eviction of people not aligned with the interests of the parties in charge -Intimidation against voters (armed socialists/communists at polling stations) -Unlimited right to strike without cause or reason (this also lead to an strike against paying rent, but grinded industrial production to a halt) -Voter fraud (in the 36 election there were at least 3 regions in Spain where the votes were manipulated) -Violence and assault against law enforcers not fully aligned with the interests of the goverment (mainly the Guardia Civil) -General political corruption. -Deposition of political charges not aligned with the socialists/Communists (mainly in the south, they kicked at least 8 mayors and a lot of public officials) -Left wing politican figures making open death threats against their political opponents in parliament (yes, this happened at least 3 times) -And last but not least, politically motivated murder at the hands of law enforcers (the murder of Calvo Sotelo)
And all this just from the top of my head. And important to know this happened in roughly 6 months
@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@branman65@lelouchebag Trotsky was the competing "brain" to Lenin. His beliefs were more or less stating that Communism requires an industrialized society because you cannot have industry spring from no basis, and it's a permanent revolution. The trotskyists were all about using industry and finance to push for this idea and attack the petty bourgeois (aka normal people who aren't failing to thrive) because they saw them as the vanguard against proletariat revolution. If that sounds familiar, it's because that's what we've seen from Western leftists for the past decade or two. Interesting point— Irving Kristol, father of Bill Kristol of the Bush era, is considered the father of neoconservativism. He was a proud card carrying trotskyist. It's hilarious how thin the grift connection is. It's like the stonetoss tug of war meme where the capitalist fat cat is paying dysgenic antifa to attack normies to ruin society so they can sweep in to take more of it.
Ok, so trostky people are the worst of the bunch. I remember in highschool that trostky wanted to spread communism all over Europe and ruin everything but Stalin chased him out and then he got a pick to the skull, which made a mexican whore kill herself.
@Morghur@BowsacNoodle@LordMordred@MartianM00n@lelouchebag so there's Stalinism which is jingoistic industrial marxism with gooks there's Maoism which is third-world ooga booga communism then there is Trotskyism, which is ultimate and open spiteful mutant marxism
@Gundog@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@lelouchebag Dollfuss is literally the "Hitler? no, I support Jose Francois von Vatnik. dictator of east slabovia from 1921-1922, he even supported latin mass!" meme
@Morghur@LordMordred@MartianM00n@lelouchebag Dollfuss was an Austrian midget that ruled his country for 2 years under a cringy tradcath reactionary ideology then got shot by NatSoc chads
@branman65@LordMordred@Morghur@MartianM00n@lelouchebag Not wrong. Bunch of gay nerds enacting their revenge fantasies against society. Trotsky was smarter though. He recognized that getting actual bankers to fund communism would help it succeed. It's actually very similar to what we saw with occupy wallstreet disappearing and creepy man-made sexuality becoming "worker discourse".
@BowsacNoodle@LordMordred@Morghur@MartianM00n@lelouchebag vaush and other breadtubers are the ultimate bolshevik commisar, vaush is a fat bestialist pedo who is dating an obese mulatto goblin, destiny is a meth addicted dwarf, Christman is (or was idk if he died) a fat cokehead with the proportions of a toddler
