@kaia their operating costs are a small percentage and a lot of the donations are money laundered to activist organizations and individuals. people have already tracked it all down.
@kaia Reminds me of that time I installed Pleroma on my phone (for federation tests with a bad network). Wouldn't do it without proper storage like an SSD but it's entirely doable.
@Moon@shitposter.club@kaia@brotka.st i should do that too. i might try to make an account on roam and see what their user interface is like, because obsidian doesn't have an obvious way of browsing non-hierarchical notes
@Moon@shitposter.club@kaia@brotka.st isnt it like, normal for a foundation to give money to activists in order to further the goals set by the foundation? also there isnt much to track down, considering its in the financial reports
@Moon@shitposter.club@kaia@brotka.st both are like, personal note systems, some may call "memex" obsidian is a proprietary free desktop and mobile application that saves everything in markdown w/ very simple extra json data. file based storage means it handles being synced via a file service very well (i use syncthing) https://obsidian.md/ it supports (back)links, markdown editing, a graph view, and a lot of plugins for handling extra things (automatic daily notes, tasks, git, etc) https://obsidian.md/ roam is a paid saas similar system, but it seems to have a more refined browsing UI, that i have not tried but i am interested in. there's a public demo instance that doesn't save https://roamresearch.com/#/app/help/page/80uPAx8m- also some people have supposedly cloned it into emacs but ive also not tried that https://www.orgroam.com/
@susul@kaia yeah exactly, it's all in the financial reports, what I saw was they were just giving money to things that you could only connect to wikipedia interests by an incredible stretch. this is always going to be a subjective call.
this is actually something I've become interested in recently because of the big push to inject spying into messaging services to "stop CSAM", people were trying to figure out where the money was coming from for the campaigns and I was digging through websites and linkedin and public records websites. it actually gets pretty difficult because it's not a waterfall it's like a water park with hundreds of those spray guns all spraying water at each other lol.
