Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 15-Oct-2023 09:43:51 JST Sexy Moon cryptocurrencies are super useful even if they didn't pan out exactly how expected and they fill a lot of niches but the bad publicity of the constant scams, hacks and collapses are destroying it -

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 15-Oct-2023 09:45:10 JST Sexy Moon there is absolutely no will inside the industry to actually fight this, everybody is still just moneygrubbing as fast as they can.
the tech people are building amazing shit, constant advances in applied cryptography but it just gets overshadowed -

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 15-Oct-2023 09:57:55 JST Sexy Moon @apropos shitheads on this network whine that they can still hate Ethereum forever because of all the electricity it wasted before the switch happened. -

of nothing (apropos@freespeechextremist.com)'s status on Sunday, 15-Oct-2023 09:57:56 JST of nothing @Moon I'm personally hurt by this: I looked at bitcoin long, long, long before it was cool, saw that everyone were moneygrubbers and scammers, and moved on.
I would have grubbed *so much* money if I'd picked up bitcoin at that point, but the corruption was too evident: people were offering goods and services for bitcoin and getting censored because they were taking bitcoin for 'too little', people were saying economically crazy stuff like "bitcoin's value is derived from its energy costs".
On the other hand, bad publicity is publicity. I'm hearing a lot less about crypto in general since Ethereum left proof-of-work to escape the "burning jungles for NFTs" meme -

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Sunday, 15-Oct-2023 09:59:30 JST Sexy Moon @nik I mean the actual chains themselves are constantly improving. for example using math proofs to verify tons more transactions in less computing power, or doing smart contracts using WASM instead of the shitty Ethereum EVM. -

翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Sunday, 15-Oct-2023 10:17:58 JST 翠星石 @mangeurdenuage The tor network has centralized authorities in order to mitigate attacks that a solution hasn't been found in full p2p.
The authorities really are limited to informing clients which flags each relay has (can set Stable, Valid, Running, BadExit etc for example) and the clients decide which relays to use from the flags.
You can run your own directory authority if you want and you can also configure or patch the client to respond in the wanted ways to certain flags. -
