Portland has been insane on both ends for quite a while now and it's only a question of how many slumlord tier things you can do as a landlord before your tenants notice. Pics more or less related. -

meso (meso@the.asbestos.cafe)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Sep-2023 20:23:06 JST meso @allison @theorytoe even the chinese government isnt devilish enough to do this, they have no reason to. china even has too MUCH housing, ghost towns of apartment blocks. Hong Kong is a capitalist economy and like really overpopulated -

meso (meso@the.asbestos.cafe)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Sep-2023 20:34:17 JST meso @allison @theorytoe yeah, considering it's been just a single isolated island. not really many other options other than migrating to the mainland which was not possible up until relatively recently, and which may not be very desirable.
American and Western non-island cities do not have this problem, and still want to do cramped housing bullshit -

Sexy Moon (moon@shitposter.club)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Sep-2023 20:48:06 JST Sexy Moon @meso @theorytoe @allison China has placed a law on developers that 70% of their new development has to be apartments under 90 square meters. That's small but not insanely small, basically they're making developers not just develop luxury apartments for the super-rich in Beijing. -

Morghur the Sealgave (morghur@seal.cafe)'s status on Friday, 06-Oct-2023 00:32:33 JST Morghur the Sealgave No, it's actually very prevalent in China. Mainly in Hong Kong, where there is not enough place to house its population so you need to pay half your pay in rent to live in an apartment with 7 more people kaia likes this. -
