    A much-requested feature added to Mastodon 4.2.0 is the ability to follow accounts in Lists while hiding them from your Home timeline.

    To do this:

    1. Log into your server's website
    2. Click on Lists (on mobile it's an icon with three dots and three lines)
    3. Click on the list whose contents you want to hide on Home
    4. Click the slider icon in the top right corner
    5. Activate the option labelled "Hide these posts from home"

    (Note that this hides that specific list's entire contents from Home.)

      @feditips I haven't played around with lists at all, but this makes me want to. Are lists private?

      @nebula

      Yeah, it's a totally different feature. Lists are like mini-timelines where you can choose which accounts appear on them.

      For example some people make news lists, which are entirely accounts from news sources.

      There's a guide to using Lists on Mastodon here: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-the-lists-feature-on-mastodon/

      @feditips no, we wanted hashtag to be added in list while not getting spam by the federation every time someone hashtag cat or cats in home. Why is this not a simple thing to understand.

      @feditips I've noticed that boosts of posts from folks on my lists still appear in my home timeline, which kind of defeats the purpose.

      Ahh... I guess the boosts from people you follow will override this, yeah.

      A possible partial workaround might be muting the boosts of those people who boost too much? https://fedi.tips/blocking-and-muting-on-the-fediverse/#JustBoosts

      Thanks for the tip about hiding particular lists from my home timeline. There are people I have in more than one list. If User1 is on ListA and ListB and I set List B to hide posts from my home timeline, what happens? Does User1 still appear in my timeline because they are in ListA?

      You can't add hashtags to lists (yet).

      If you are comfortable using Github, you can vote for this feature to be added by giving a thumbs up at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/7692

      @Sunny

      GIF libraries are easy to add on centralised systems, they're a bit more tricky on decentralised systems.

      However, if your phone's keyboard has a GIF picker you can use that, or you can insert the web address of a GIF (from Giphy etc) and it will be embedded in the post. Alternatively, you can also attach a GIF file if you have one stored on your computer or phone.

      Sheesh.
      One simple utility... that's all I asked #fediverse for! A .gif library readily available while composing toots, so I can spice up my posts. Its a little feature twitter's had for a hundred years.

      Instead, you come back with a way to follow porn stars and hide 'em from my wife! 🙄

      I think it works on apps if they support Lists, but I don't know if they have the relevant settings available yet, so I'm suggesting people do the settings on the websites.

      Also, the official apps don't support Lists at all yet, so it's only for people using certain third party apps anyway.

      @feditips This only works through the web interface on your server I gather? Would be brilliant if applied to posts your software app of choice was gathering via the API as well rather than having to rely on software dev to implement filtering, lists etc
