Blood sugar issues, hormone imbalances, and gut issues in particular can affect mood stability.

Yes, treat the root cause. Yes, bodily functions and misbehaviour can lead to depression. NO, medication is NOT addictive, it's an ENABLER of successful treatment.

Hoss Delgado (hoss@shitpost.cloud)'s status on Friday, 22-Sep-2023 07:02:29 JST Hoss Delgado Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness. Science fiction It is already happening to some extent in our own society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual’s internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.

Natasha Nox 🇺🇦🇵🇸 (natanox@chaos.social)'s status on Friday, 22-Sep-2023 07:11:00 JST Natasha Nox 🇺🇦🇵🇸 @DrCassone Sounds like a reasonable take. I just didn't like the "catchy" phrase in the picture; fear of medication is real and I suffered from it, yet the same medication also saved my life.
@p Yeah, I know. I'm really not sure why SSRIs are so popular nowadays; I got a huge amount of different meds over the years including most classes (except MOA inhibitors). In the end they all suck at the beginning as well as the end, but they also enabled me to even *think* about all my traumas.

Dr. Cassone (drcassone@drcassone.social)'s status on Friday, 22-Sep-2023 07:11:01 JST Dr. Cassone Any drug with a withdrawal mechanism is addictive, technically. The severity of addiction is highly variable (ranging from mild to severe). I have many patients over the years struggling to get off of their medications. The challenge is very real.
However, this post speaks to the mass over-prescribing that is actually taking place without first exploring causative factors. Pscyh meds may take the “edge” off of the harshness of emotional swings but, unfortunately, they also reduce the solution to the painful challenge of life, namely creativity, meaning, purpose, passion, and sex drive.
Of course, I refer out when psych meds are needed. There are definitely genuine use cases. I would never tell a patient not to take a medication prescribed to them by another doctor.
