Alas, my instance, mastodon.social, has not responded what they intend to do about #Project92 ,aka #Threads (i.e. #defederate).
The #CJEU just published a damning ruling yesterday that all its practices regarding data collection contravene #GDPDR
I have therefore decided to at least block the presently over 2.500 instances that are #Meta...

Just a couple of weeks, and #Mosseri from #Threads (#Meta) has become the second most followed account on #Mastodon--even more than double the number followers than #Mastodon founders, @Gargron .

@HistoPol @Gargron Oh, boy, there are some depressing facts about that list, including how a big chunk of the most followed celebrities in it are not active on Masto anymore at all (Gaiman seems to have landed on BlueSky, whoever runs Takei's account seems to be crossposting, mostly).
I'm fine with Masto not being celebrity-driven. Love it, in fact. But still. Sheesh. It does explain why checking if you can see follow that one Threads account would get that high on the list, though.

2) On Mastodon, go to Preferences > Import and Export > EXPORT.
There, save all your current list and request an archive of your content(!).
(This is important, if you ever need to restore the current state.)
3) On Mastodon, go to Preferences > Import and Export > Import.
4). For input type select "Domain blocking list".
(Make sure you have that selected and do not overwrite...

One user, @MOULE, has been very helpful in providing a list of the #Meta domains known so far and a simple procedure to import the #MetaBlockList into your #Mastodon account on a computer as a *USER*.
As there are several posts and I think images are sometimes more helpful, and added a step. I have re-written his method, that I have just used myself.
Here's how to #fediblock #Meta in your account:
1) Download the current list of known #Meta domains from...

But I don't want to lose my posts, threads, and convos. I just experienced that at the #deadbirdsite.
Besides, I am for a account-block level, not an instance block (i.e. no #FediBlock for the reasons explained by @tchambers recently.

I can see your point.
However, in comparison to its corporate brethren, mastodon.social is but a dwarf.
Furthermore, I cannot see him doing so. Having a lot of userson one instance gives weight. Him being a visionary, I cannot find him at fault for wanting some clout.
Besides, there are other aspects to consider than ethics of conviction: Even though Tim and I differ on the personal block level, I can still see a lot of merit in his point of not wanting... @tchambers @Gargron

Sorry but i think in cases like this sometimes actions speak louder than words.
The only way @gargron will change his mind is if people "vote with their feet" over his desire to concentrate mastodon users into a few big silos he controls.

@darwinwoodka @HistoPol @Gargron You mean Takei? Love the guy, but everybody's got George. His account is... mostly not him, but also entirely made out of reposts across Masto, BlueSky and Threads. I don't know if he's still on Twitter, too, or which other places.
The celebs from that list that aren't doing that have largely left, barring a couple.

6) Click "Merge" so threads.net is added to your block list. Do NOT click "Overwrite"!
7). Click "Upload"!
8) I'd suggest to repeat this process at least once a weak, better daily for the next couple of weeks until things pan out with #meta
