@aral @ajsadauskas I don't really think it was that underhanded or sinister. It's a helpful tool for people to realize their own consumption's impact, and guide them towards products and energy sources that... produce less carbon.
It's easy to say, "oh it's these big energy companies destroying the earth!" but I find it really helpful to see how my own regular little life creates the demand for tons upon tons of CO2 use.

@Lazarou @aral This is his post. He’s allowed to express his view that violent rhetoric is suboptimal than the time-tested satirical ridicule. You are allowed to disagree. If you feel violence rhetoric is fine, and given the extremity of the current climate change situation, that’s probably a super valid argument, but you don’t need to name-call him for disagreeing.

@JustinDerrick @ajsadauskas I’m pretty sure a few of the world’s militaries and industry in general would beg to differ. Yes, of course, “consumer” demand makes a difference but this is a systemic issue.

@aral @ajsadauskas As much as that's true... They call us 'consumers' for a reason. We drive the demand for energy -- look at the start of COVID how the demand for gasoline dropped as people sheltered-in-place.

This is nonsense. They may have popularised the term but it was in use by environmentalists back in 1992 when I started working in this field as part of the UN Agenda21. I was told it was coined in Canada.
