If you’re switching to #Firefox, remember Firefox is not private by default. Consider the #LibreWolf fork, which is. Otherwise, go into your settings and adjust its tracking features (like having #Google as the default search engine), turn off telemetry, “experiments”, etc.
(Also, if you all switch and Google goes bankrupt, #Mozilla will go bankrupt too because they exist thanks to half a billion dollars a year from Google. So remember Google must survive for Mozilla to survive.)

@nbwpuk @hayo Mozilla is Mozilla. It is what it is. And very successful (half a billion dollars a year successful; pay their CEO millions successful).
What is needed is an alternative that is funded differently to begin with and with limits on what it can and can’t do (can’t be sold; must uphold its social mission; cannot take money from surveillance capitalists, etc.)
And we can fund it, as an independent non-govt organisation, with our taxes.

It would be great if every user was to donate $10 a year to know that it would stop these dodgy back room deals. But it feels at the moment that it would just top-up that billion, not replace it.
It also brings on the thought... what could Mozilla achieve if they then didn't have that corporate sponsor pressure?

@filipesm Not necessarily, no. But Vivaldi is still a commercial enterprise, even if it’s a cooperative (which is good) and their source code is proprietary. So it’s not “of the commons”. We are missing an alternative that is.

@mjj @aral I use fennec and it's very good! There's also mull, which is essentially Librewolf for Android (it comes significantly more hardened and with a full security and privacy oriented config), but it only runs at 60 hertz and has very inconsistent frame timing so it's nauseating for me to use
