   I came in late, but...

   The original intent of the Framers, I've read, was that there would be separate but equal branches of government, and they would specialize their separate crafts and protect their purview from the other branches.

   That all goes away when you have people in all realms conspiring to their party with no regard for the strength of their institution. Now you get parties that align with each other across all branches to achieve things, often to the detriment of their own validity. (I'm thinking of how elected officials like to let the courts decide everything to stay out of contentious fights, for example)

I'm actually serious here. Joe Biden is a very good neoliberal, which in global politics is conservative.

     Just a thought, but, what if parties were distilled down to their essence - progressive and conservative. Then those were the only parties permitted. Anyone running would run on one of those rails, and would be quite limited otherwise.

     The idea being, politics is not a medium for personal expression in any form.

     I could go a lot further with this, given many more words.

     I think you're saying there are better places to focus our energy than trying to ban parties, and I really have to agree. I'm trying to think of how "banning parties" could even be implemented and I'm very uncomfortable with it, honestly.

     I think there's consensus on the issue of money in politics: it needs strong regulation, corporations shouldn't be able to contribute to candidates, parties nor PACs.
     Regarding the "two party" system it is more a consequence of primary-general election system, and state election laws, than a constitutional matter. We can't forget the perversion created by gerrymandering, that must be addressed.
