     @NEETzsche @NEETzsche Orthodox doctrine prohibits homosexual practice and lifestyle. Full stop. Priests aren't allowed to be gay. No gay weddings. If someone is gay, penitent, and non-practicing, they are accepted as a fellow flawed human being.

     The opinions of any particular group of parishioners is not how we define doctrine or practice: again, that's a western thing.

     @jeremiah @NEETzsche People don't seem to get that neither the Catholic nor Orthodox Christian Churches will bend the knee to globohomo just because citizenry think it's a good idea. Doctrine doesn't change just because society wants it to, especially in the East. Truth doesn't change. The church is supposed to be a light to the world, even if the world is very very dark. Dark times have happened in the past and they'll happen again.

     I’m not far from that, although I read a lot more than just the Bible. I also like to break orthocuck balls about how they edited it and cherry picked scripture in the early church, and brutally suppressed non-orthodox christian groups while insisting that orthodoxy=christianity. There’s something very satisfying about this. I can’t explain it.

     @Eiregoat @NEETzsche @jeremiah The Pope can't just change doctrine because he feels like it, or if he can in theory it wouldn't happen in practice. There's a number of problems with his liberation theology mindset, but that's distinct from his influence on the church doctrine. At the present rate the RCC has at least until the next pope for any sort of gay boi endorsement, at most pessimistic. Possibly will hold the line indefinitely. We'll likely see married priests before gay Catholic "marriage" will be Church approved.
