Imagine, if you will, for a moment, a world in which micro USB was never invented and we continued to use mini USB until type-c was conceived
It’s better, isn’t it?

Full size USB B is used in everything music related andalso printers and such. full size 3.0 USB B is a rarity but I have an HDD dock station that uses it. Xeon² (izaya@social.shadowkat.net)'s status on Monday, 21-Aug-2023 08:38:33 JST Xeon² @alfredohno @ellenor2000 at this point it's just funny
it happens repeatedly that people tell me "oh X is so much better than Y [the old version of X]" and then I get my hands on X a few years later and it's just mediocre
my old phone is from 2015 and my new one from 2020 and for being three times the age the micro-USB port on the old phone has held up much better than the USB-C on the new one
but I also only have a sample size of one because like, what else uses USB B connectors at this point? networks have displaced all the uses I can think of besides charging phones; printers, external storage... actually I think that was all I used B connectors for anyway
and I guess it'll be at least another two years before I get a sample size of 2, assuming the USB connector on my current phone doesn't fail, because what other usecase is left? -

I’ve had every fire tablet I’ve ever owned (some four by now) have its stupid little port and cable die out in a handful of months, my type c phone of three years has yet to even have the slightest bit of wiggle in its port, with every cable I’ve used still reliably working for both data and power -

Mini and type c can still be fragile, yes, but micro is beyond fragile, it’s wet paper, it becomes dysfunctional if you sneeze -

Most printers, scanners etc aren't networked, and even if they are usually they still can be connected directly and it's done by USB B, unless it's some sort of portable one. Vast majority of MIDI devices are USB B unless again it's a small form factor. Type c and micro fill the same niche (ultra portable devices) while having similar level of robustness, main difference is that type c doesn't get awkward when you need 3.1 speeds and such. -

Printers often have ethernet and I won't buy one without, as if it has ethernet I usually won't need to do any bullshit to make it work. My grandad has one (1) external HDD with a 3B socket, but no cable, and I don't think it's ever been used.
