I can't believe that I chose an industry where giving a shit about what I do and the codebases I work on is regarded as a negative thing and the only metric that matters is how fast you can shit out support for something and not like, idk, any of the other code writing things we have to do

If you don't give a shit about the codebase you will end up mired in shit by your own decisions very fast

pry (pry@raru.re)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2023 10:26:13 JST pry @alexandria it actually sucks so much... it really feels like software engineering isn't treated like a serious engineering effort and is instead just ducktaping kinda working things together

So you lose points with your manager and the rest of the staff by going "eh? thats fucked up", everyone acts like you're weird for giving a shit about it, and when you ask a forum of your peers who are in more senior positions, they all agree that the suggested alterations are fucked up and wrong

But like a significant part of the reason I code is because I have to fix/replace other people's stuff to use computers, which aren't a thing you can just toss away anymore.
I just wish I could capitalize this nicely without also typically ending up within corporations that don't give a shit… -
