@shibao This is such a well written post. I'm not certain I fully agree with it but I also am not certain what I believe on this yet.

Something that took me far longer to understand than I would like to admit is learning that whatever one might define as progress is not monotonically increasing.

I guess I'm saddened by the trend you describe... but on the other hand, as many others here have said, I dont think itll change my behavior, and I hope to hang on to the spark of computing for as long as I can.

also, damn I love how much personality your writing has. I really need to have my blog stop being a dry "tech how to" blog... and actually develop some sort of style

@icedquinn am paying for glm coding plan lite bc its like 9$ for 3 months and its got pretty high rate limits. I find myself honestly barely using it tho just bc ive been wanting to practice doing some programming on my own.

its nice for things that I dont really care about as much... just generating random TUIs or whatnot

@icedquinn ah I see. I use opencode at work and its gotten pretty decent I think. but also... company sponsored opus 4.5.

@icedquinn yeah opencode was so hit or miss for me early on. also like idk, its even weird when using supposedly powerful models like gemini 3...

@icedquinn oh yeah K2.5 is HUGE... like actually massive. I dont really think its feasible to run locally.

GLM 4.7 has been pretty good in my experience.

@icedquinn I haven't been running anything locally though... just have the GLM lite plan bc its dirt cheap and I dont wanna pay any money for things...
