There is something I would like to watch on my wife's Apple TV. If I tap to rent the video, it says "Confirm on Apple Device". However it says the device must be "Nearby", which I interpret as Bluetooth. My wife is not in town and when I checked with her via text she did not get a notification on her iPhone. Is there a way for me to watch the movie?
- Apple's support article links to http :// appleid.apple.com - That doesn't exist. There's no server running at port 80 on that server. - There IS an https :// appleid.apple.com. - The https :// version uses HSTS, so if you've visited https :// appleid.apple.com at least once on the device, following the HTTP link will auto redirect you to HTTPS. - But no one at Apple Support has ever noticed this, I guess.
So, I do have an Apple ID, so I signed my own account into the Apple TV.
Although I successfully made a digital purchase with this Apple ID five days ago, when I attempted to rent on the Apple TV it said my credit card was expired. It attempted to charge me in USD, so probably it was using a very, *very* old card.
You cannot change your apple ID payment information on the Apple TV. You have to use an iPhone. What if I don't have an iPhone? (1/2)
Fortunately, it *did* allow me to register a PayPal account. It still required me to me put in a US address. But it didn't check with PayPal if that USA address was correct. So I just… put in… … a USA address. Not my address. Just… an address. And it accepted it. I may be committing some sort of opsec fail by admitting that I did this.
I sincerely hate the Apple TV. I'm not overfond of anything Apple's created in the last… let's say ten years, but the Apple TV is truly a weird shadow realm with all the worst elements of Apple's philosophies but none of the occasional benefits their other devices possess
After logging in, I was able to set my credit card. Of course, I was also *not* able to set my credit card, because although I got my Apple *Developer* account successfully moved from USA to Canada this past week, apparently my *Apple TV* account, on the same Apple ID, is still USA. So it would not accept my Canadian credit card because it didn't have a valid USA address. Because my address is not in the USA. It is in Canada.
