   Literally everything that I learn about humans are terrible, between Trump, Covid and Sounds of Freedom, I know so many people who I thought were level headed and rational who have turned out to be A-ok with falling down the chucklefuck conspiracy pipeline.

     the worst part of the "trans are child groomers" lie is that religious orgs contain groomers and worse. there are plenty of good religious people. but it is too easy to direct their gaze in fear at what they don't understand than it is to get them to admit certain ugly truths about what sits right next to them. they would rather hide that. and thus, they become something less than good people, like an acid on their personality and character. all powered by ignorance and fear

     @kelleynnn @mckra1g @Spicewalla @accretionist This is essentially what I'm seeing from one of my friends, she's a mom who has had to raise her kids alone and had a bunch of challenges until her most recent marriage, now everything is family and God which isn't bad, but now it's veering into transphobia and "we have to save the children."

     @mckra1g @Spicewalla @accretionist @BlackAzizAnansi Some folks are set up for it from early on. I lost a friend down that pipeline, and I tried to be there for her when she was vulnerable. Looking back on it, I realized the seeds were there since before we met, from her upbringing. She'd also gotten knocked down and then "rescued" repeatedly by this same culture, so by the time she got to that stage of life, she was already both broken down and primed.

     @Spicewalla @accretionist @BlackAzizAnansi correct. Once ppl are scared shitless, they’ll believe any bullshit a strongman peddles if only he promises to make the pain go away. This is 100% why communities need to support the weakest among us. If you've got the bandwidth to help the vulnerable, do it. Fascists exploit the vulnerable bc they do not give one single shit who they hurt along their quest for power (preaching to the choir, I'm sure).

     It starting to seem like conservative policies are intended to cause the kind of psychological insecurity that conditions people to seek out validation at any price. And then conservatives follow-up on that by providing validation at a very high price.

     because for some chasing affirmation and validation is more important than being a decent sane person

     nevermind what they're trying to affirm, nevermind who they are getting validation from. all those radioactive red flags... some don't even blink
