@raccoon The problem what that image is that Tux is a false prophet.
Linux is only a kernel, quite a proprietary one as well - if you were to replace windows with just Linux, your computer wouldn't work anymore, as it'll just panic() on boot. Although your computer would be running less proprietary software, it'll still be running some.
The true project, full of terrorists that have tirelessly carried out the terrorist acts of sharing and helping their neighbors for decades, to eliminate the sacrilege known as proprietary software, is GNU: https://www.gnu.org/
@dushman >I use Alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU Coreutils, or any other GNU code. It's Linux, but it's not GNU+Linux." The smile on the mans face enhanced. Alpine is a BusyBox/Linux distro he stated, although BusyBox doesn't contain GNU code unto itself, it is licensed under versions of the GNU General Public License, can only be compiled with GNU software, like gcc for example and if you follow the dependency trees, you'll find GNU software. He contained explaining that it is possible to turn windows into GNU/kWindows by installing GNU onto windows, but you should really use an OS that respects your freedom instead. He went on to state that even if he was wrong, he won't be wrong for long, as he's working on perfecting GNU/Hurd.
With a sickly wheeze, my life was ejected from my body and I was sent down to GNU/Hell for an special lesson as to why you don't call the GNU OS after a proprietary kernel.
@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com@raccoon@den.raccoon.quest@getimiskon@fedi.getimiskon.xyz "I use Linux as my operating system," I state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. He swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision. "Actually", he says with a grin, "Linux is just the kernel. You use GNU+Linux!' I don't miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "I use Alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU Coreutils, or any other GNU code. It's Linux, but it's not GNU+Linux."
The smile quickly drops from the man's face. His body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth and drops to the floor with a sickly thud. As he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!" Coolly, I reply "If windows were compiled with GCC, would that make it GNU?" I interrupt his response with "-and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. Even if you were correct, you won't be for long."
With a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. He lies on the floor, cold and limp. I've womansplained him to death.
@dushman >but I can't even boot it on bare metal on both Trisquel and Parabola Skill issue.
GNU Linux-libre works great on all hardware I have, after all, Linux-libre doesn't change the init part for AMD64.
Some kernels resulting from certain .config's won't boot on certain hardware, but you'll get the exact same result whether you use that .config to compile a proprietary or a free version.
@dushman@raccoon@Suiseiseki@mischievoustomato@jihadjimmy >Running 100% free software would be ideal but is simply impractical for most people. you're saying this as if we don't know that. we know. it's a sad state of affairs and all you're doing is defending proprietary software while pretending that's realism, no, that's being a retard who defends proprietary software
@mischievoustomato@marsey.moe@raccoon Erm.. Did you know this thing you use has a tiny amount of proprietary code therefore it's worse than Satan himself
