    I can still like you very much, while I tell you why helping Jack Dorsey realize his libertarian-cum-fascist #Bluesky brain worm dreams is very bad for my country and the planet and public health and the climate and everyone I love.

    Jack Dorsey dreamed up Bluesky because he doesn’t want to ban Nazis & insurrectionists, but to personally profit from their online recruitment efforts, he hand-picked its CEO, & wants this man to be President:

      @chargrille "'I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.' This was unexpected and rather difficult. There was some scattered clapping, but most of them were trying to work it out and see if it came to a compliment."

      @chargrille Dorsey figures he will profit more from pure chaos than by merely exerting power over the system of organization. Pretty frightening, imo.

      @theLastTheorist

      It's not just profit with Dorsey. He has the same ideological outlook as Musk.

      They both seek to create systems that foster the growth of racial intolerance & right wing terrorism. We've seen it for the last several years. Personal algorithms instead of community moderation will turbo-charge the spread of fascism, which is dependent on the use of mass media to create, target & abue scapegoats of all kinds: ethnic/racial/religious minorities, LGBTQ, disabled, & leftists.

      @chargrille @theLastTheorist Got a friend who works for one of those nootropics concerns out on the west coast. The CEO runs with Dorsey’s crowd and the shit I hear is never not unsettling.

      @Theblueone

      I think these men are totally decoupled from the rest of humankind - by their unimaginably perverse wealth and their uncommon psychological desire to dominate others. They were probably both children of abusers.

      Anyway, people need to fight back against them in solidarity now, or they are going to completely & irreversibly fuck the entire world up. They are damaged & uneducated & arrogant people, with too much power to damage others.

      Yes, all stuck at the developmental & behavioral stage of teenagers. But with the power of nation states. What could go wrong. /s/

      Everyone who helps them build their networks is enabling this. It is just reality. Network effects aren’t an excuse.

      Social media platforms are funded by oil money.

      https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/10/28/saudis-kingdom-holding-company-to-maintain-twitter-stake

      On Joy Reid's MSNBC show #TheReidOut, on Jul 7, she hosted an Iowa TV meteorologist who quit his job because of death threats from a MAGA Republican.

      The oil industry is funding malign influence campaigns against meteorology, of all things. Oil indicated disinformation is triggering waves of stochastic terrorism against people talking about climate change, or even ...

      I’ve seen discussions on here indicating that law twitter & another big group (historians, maybe? An academic subgroup) both decamped for Bluesky this week. That is both incredibly disappointing & incredibly ironic, as both disciplines should know better & have more leadership & forethought.

      The people I know who are throwing in with Bluesky seem to believe a) Dorsey won’t ratfuck them again & b) their accounts will be portable outside Jack Dorsey’s protocol when they wish.

      I don’t think that will be true.

      @chargrille eh, if threads becomes the weird free for all and Bluesky becomes the leftie and academic service then things will be fine there for a while.

      The secret is that no corporate owned socmed service is viable long-term; eventually they'll all have to move again - either here or the next big thing.

      @tess also if you’re a lefty I cannot fathom why you’d put yourself in a Jack Dorsey project to begin with. He literally said that Twitter banning Trump in the middle of the violent coup against the government was “the wrong thing for society” (paraphrasing) and he wouldn’t do it again.

      How much clearer a “believe people when they tell you who they are” do you get?
