     I used to have a job making 17/hr when I was homeless

     @mmmfeet @matty @synapsid Synasid was offered $19 an hour for a high skilled labor position. You can work at Buc-ee's for almost the same rate and spend most of your time on your phone there. That's my point. You don't get high quality skill if you don't reward it.
     I thought I saw offers well into the 6 figures for people to manage Buc-ee's stores in some places. Being good at running retail takes skill too, but I've never seen those salaries for managing a retail store before. The difference in what you expect salaries to be versus reality are crazy.

     @matty @synapsid It's wild how little you can get offered for some highly skilled jobs, but then some lower-skilled jobs can offer way more. Depending on the region, some jobs pay really well simply because no one wants to do it, but other regions pay little for the same work.

     If no one wanted to do it those jobs wouldn't be filled. They pay well in those regions because they don't have enough cheap migrant labor (yet)

     @synapsid @mmmfeet @matty @TheWanax The real irritating part is how the white boomers expect us to keep playing by the rules. You can’t NOT have health insurance, because that’s okay for all the brown folk - including their neighbors making 10 times your salary - but not for you. When you point this out they sputter and get huffy about you changing the conversation because “you still gotta do the right thing”

     Very aggravating. But that’s life in the UMC I guess. Boomers slow to read the tea leaves.
