@hannes
Hi there. I'm not sure if you remember me back from the days on Quitter around 2016. We had a acrimonious split back then which later on I regretted a lot. So for the rough departure and the bitter tone in our last exchanges I want to apologize. I was pretty out of my mind back then, felt underappreciated and bossed around. Our topical differences may have been resolvable in a better way. Looking back I can only say: Silly me. I'm sorry for the way I treated you back then.
I never shared your political leanings (or not to that extent) and your activism but I admired your dedication with which you concentrated on developing and keeping afloat Quitter. Thank you for your (and @3mp0's) tremendous efforts.
All the years I was wondering what has happened to you after you shut down Quitter (and seemingly sold your flat of which you then posted lovely images on the picture sharing site you deveoped but whose name I long have forgotten). Are you well these days? How are you doing? Is your life more tranquil nowadays? Do you succeeded (a bit) in your efforts to leave "standard society"?
Anyway, I hope you are well and I wish you the best.
@simsa03 i really can't remember what bad things were said, but i remember that you said what you thought was true and right, seemingly without regard to authority, personal gain or popularity. i respect that a lot. i know you didn't agree with me on everything, but i think it was mainly productive disagreements. i certainly also remember the massive work you did with documentation, the faq and helping newcomers. that was very important, and i think we both played a part to keep the fediverse idea alive back then.
i did sell my flat, and built a small house on wheels and started growing potatoes. it's sad that i wasn't able to keep the image sharing gnu social site quit.im online at least, but we have a blog called hafsbloggen now, where i write sometimes, in swedish.
I'm kind of relieved that you seemingly don't remember our differences and the harsh words. That perhaps allows me to lay my memories and regrets to rest, finally.
Please tell me, if you don't mind, what has happened to @3mp0? At times it felt to me at Quitter like he was your alter ego, perhaps even you yourself under a different avatar. If not, how and what is he doing today?
Same goes for Manuel Ortega with whom you did a summer school on GNu Social in Spain. Any idea what he is up to today?
He is (or was) one of the drivers of the Spanish collective whose name I've forgotten that tried to use GNU Social as means to connect countercultural initiatives. As far as I remember he coded a version of GNU Social that could be used to share objects, stuff, tools, services. Also he and his comrades coded a GNU Social plugin for Wordpress. His article
I found to be one of the best things I've read about #federation and the #Fediverse, arguing that incomplete conversation trees due to different instances' scope are in fact a feature, not a bug. I disagreed back then but it has been a major stimulus for my thinking about the social aspect (not the technical one) of federation.
And last but not least, do you have any idea what happened to @mcscx or where life has blown him to? He has been the best moderator of a Fediverse instance I have ever encountered yet. Till today I'm fond of his kindness towards "users", his politeness, patience, his effort and dedication, his sheer infinite willingness to help and support newbies in the Fediverse. It was especially him who made Quitter such a pleasant place, at least to me – although one could argue that it was some quality of Quitter an dits atmosphere that attracted people like @mcscx in the first place. Any idea how he fared? Should you still be in contact with him, please send him my regards and best wishes, and that I still remember his "service". Without him, Quitter wouldn't have been the place in was back then.
Cheers to you. I'll have a deeper look into your blog the coming days.
