@victor fair, this is mostly practice for next year, i got like 200 seedling planter spots and i'm going to start everything from seed indoors next year before hte frost ends i just feel like that's how i want to do it, i feel more pride in my effort hwen i grow things from seeds.
@Zealist For tuber vegetables, you might consider direct-sow instead of starting in trays. They don't really like to be disturbed, and you're also less likely to overwater if they're in a large bed. Then you can thin them our after a few weeks and then again after a month.
If you do still start in trays, it's often easier to use bigger pots (like 2.5-inch) instead of the 6-cell trays, and plant 2-3 seeds each to thin out after they've sprouted. It might feel like you're wasting space, but it's a little easier to start and more reliable if you're not trying to mass-produce. The 6-cell trays can get cramped pretty quickly for new plants.
@victor yea i haven't even considered potatoes, cuz i can't till any ground right now, so they wouldn't grow great, i've moved my 9 green bean plants to a flower bed that used to have plenty of flowers but now it's just uh, dead ground lol, and the zuccini is near them, my elevated planter has tomatoes and peppers in it right now, and i got pumpkin and several canteloup plants growing in a rock bed near the house, i will lay some straw down soon to keep the vines from getting to hot n rocks.
@Zealist Onions and potatoes are really hard to start from seeds, so don't feel bad if yours aren't working. For potatoes, you can buy some from the store, wash them, cut them up into 2-4 pieces each (making sure each piece has an eye), and grow that way...Then, when harvesting, save a few for the next crop.
Other tubers like beets, radishes, and carrots tend to do better from seed.
Also don't forget the herbs if you don't have some growing already! Rosemary and thyme are excellent with vegetables, though I've had trouble keeping rosemary alive, probably due to overwatering.
@victor i've been looking at this website seedsavers.org to learn how to get seeds out of what i grow just to be self sufficient as a hobby/experiment rather than buy some, tho i think i will buy more seeds anyways, i just wanna try doing l0otsof different things
@Zealist@victor I was doing that for a while. I still grow garlic and potatoes from last year's crop. I grow several hundred garlic a year that all came from one bulb when I first started my garden.
@Zealist@victor I got some garlic from the farmers market years ago and it was the best garlic I ever tasted, so I took one bulb and planted it in the fall and then just kept replanting it for a couple years until I had a lot.
