@atomicpoet@mastodon.social It hasn't been about abuse of QTs, mostly because the crowd are the tinkerer crowd; but the lack of mods - perhaps you need a mod broadcast account - being in the timeline to say "hey we CW that here" when folks are talking breaking news about politics, that Fox guy getting sacked, or the young black man who was murdered on the subway, is what visible, active moderation is all about.

As a trans person I had to get out out of there when the timeline devolved into Fox guy talk. And some folks there were posting last night (my time) that they were distressed that most users weren't CWing when posting their takes on the chokehold killing of a black man. If you want to rail against mastodon.social poisoning #Fediverse social culture, there's a start right there.

  And I'm lobbying to diversify the mod team further because I realize this server will probably grow.
  On the point of CWs, we're trying to walk a line between allowing newbies to experiment, pushing them to be sensitive towards others, while not telling marginalized people that they should put their lived experiences in a CW.

  I don’t see that behaviour as acceptable either. Should I see that, I give a warning, with more severe actions should they fail to heed our warnings. Nevertheless, please report people who are behaving badly.

  The examples I've given aren't about marginalised folx being put behind CW. They're about marginalised folx asking people to put CWs on news and commentary about folx who hate & murder those folx. I'm sorry, but it's been black and #trans folks asking white and cis folx to stick that stuff behind a CW. It is fucking traumatic to see that stuff and barely have a chance to scroll by. I follow @e_urq@journa.host and all my #trans siblings for the non-CWd stuff. There's no need for everyone else to post unCWd tragic stuff beyond boosts.
