Unpopular/popular opinion??
In a monarchy, it sounds stupid when one marries the queen/king and doesn't get the equal title. Much more powerful sounding when you say "the queen and king of *so and so country*" than the "queen and duke," etc. Lol
- Seahorses are horses likes this.

@LisbonMuse I live in a constitutional monarchy and I don't actually know this: is it common that a King and a Queen could be mother/son or father/daughter? I guess the way they do it there is only a King OR a Queen... Right?
But I agree with you that it would be better your way. Like maybe the same way they do it now, but then the spouse of the like top pop King/Queen just still gets the title? So there would have to be an extra title for the top dog I guess..... I'm going to ask ChatGPT.....

@LisbonMuse My understanding was way off because my life has been almost entirely during Queen Elizabeth's rule. I don't really understand all the titles. But I think having a Queen being the head of state, not a king, is more rare?

@ChasingWaterfalls No I agree though! I probably worded it wrong. I still think the one who has the thrown should have the most power, but just call them king and queen, queen and king, etc. It sounds better to the ear 😅

@LisbonMuse But Prince Philip was not Queen Elizabeth’s equal. Why should he have been given an equal title? Same goes for Camilla.

@ChasingWaterfalls But it's how it sounds is my point, it just rolls off the tongue better. *King and queen* versus *king and duchess* 😂

@LisbonMuse Sorry I misunderstood

@Piss_Ant @LisbonMuse Philip was not king because a king outranks a queen. So he was her consort. Camilla is not queen because of Diana. It was deemed more prudent to have her be queen consort and not raise the ire of people who are still pissed that Charles cheated on Diana with her. Normally she would be queen since she would not outrank Charles. Same if Diana was still alive and married to him.

@Fullycaffeinated @Piss_Ant That's stupid the king outranks the queen. It should be equal titles depending on who has the throne* by birth! So if the queen inherits the throne by birth, who she marries should be called king but she holds the power, and vice versa So it's about a technicality because if the man the queen married had been called a king, he would have a higher rank?

@LisbonMuse @Piss_Ant Yup. The titles of nobility are hierarchical. Kings outrank queens meaning that if Philip had been given the title, he's the one who would have had the power to sign bills into law, had his face n the money, meet with dignitaries, etc. Basically everything Elizabeth did. She would have dropped a rank.

@Fullycaffeinated @LisbonMuse @Piss_Ant interestingly one cannot not self id female to get out of a title nor as male to get one.. it's just for the peasants. eh

@Fullycaffeinated @LisbonMuse Oh damn, so is Camilla going to be Queen (not just queen consort)? I thought she got a different title for the same reason Philip didn't, but again, my understanding was wrong.

@Piss_Ant @Fullycaffeinated @LisbonMuse Charles is carrying his Uncle's failure to queen the women they were not the first husbands of., as well as if Camilla had just waited for him, there would never have been the public will for Queen Di

@Piss_Ant @LisbonMuse She won't because of the cheating scandal. She agreed from the get-go that she would be queen consort.

@Piss_Ant @Fullycaffeinated @LisbonMuse Camilla is technically Queen consort, but it seems will just be referred to as Queen like previous Queen consorts have been. Queen Elizabeth (Elizabeth II’s mother), Queen Mary, and Queen Alexandra were all Queen consorts for example. If Diana had lived and still been charles’ wife, she would have been Queen consort too. I believe there was discussion once that Camilla might take the title Princess consort , but Queen Elizabeth specified Camilla would be Queen consort last year?
The comparable title for men is Prince consort from what I’ve gathered, although I think there has only been Prince Phillip and Prince Albert in the UK. It has to do with the way kings and queens have been traditionally viewed because a king outranks a queen, so a queen can’t be married to a king consort. A ruling Queen is technically a queen regnant not a Queen consort.
Source: I’m lame and read too much about Queen Victoria and her daughters. I’m also American so I may have f’d up somewhere.

@starsstorm @Piss_Ant @LisbonMuse There were also few queens because until a few years ago, the crown would get passed down to the eldest son. The only way a woman got it is if there were only daughters.

@Fullycaffeinated @Piss_Ant @LisbonMuse Absolutely accurate. It’s a shame too because I think the queens are on average better.
