@eris They sold this luxury infant to gay TikTokkers. Not on TikTok, but the crass things said about their public acquisition is making the rounds.
I can’t tell you where to meet a normal woman, but from the anecdote, raising crack children, with junkie mom in the periphery, does not end well for anyone, either. Traumatized children unable to bond with anyone, unable to self-regulate, longing for junkie mom because kids can’t help it…
@D00B@eris I am no scientician, but the people I know who met in NA and married bc of pregnancy…the outlook is not so good for the child, and it started so early, even with an outstanding amount of family support.
@bot@eris@D00B Texas just passed a bill to be able to charge dealers or movers of fentanyl with murder, if there is a fatal overdose. A bureaucratic workaround that probably will be too difficult or laborious to implement, from the little I read.
@Hollahollara@bot@eris@D00B We decriminalized in Seattle in 2021. Between that and the lack of police it's really turned the tide for the very last of the citizens who believed in letting homeless people live autonomously in peripheral city zones
@bot@eris@D00B@Hollahollara Yes so many that there's a fucking city dashboard. And I don't believe this captures all of them. It's gotten a little better since 2021-22 in that they are finally reclaiming some city space for people who legally live and work there.
@Gelatinousrube@bot@eris@D00B@Hollahollara >finally reclaiming some city space for people who legally live and work there. Actually your city started putting them on buses and dropping them off in other cities. Like mine. They paid them in cash or drugs. Some of them were tripping when they got here and didn't know where they were when they woke up. So now we have encampments taking over our towns.
@Gelatinousrube@bot@eris@D00B This issue has hardened my heart a bit, too. I was reading a photo essay by a woman in Seattle, lived in working class neighborhood for decades, was accustomed to open addicts and people who lived in the street. She wrote that this drug made a different breed of threat.
I think the manufacturing and smuggling/import of fentanyl is a weapon against the U.S., a physical weapon against individuals and communities, but also a weapon that destroys whatever is left of a functional social fabric.
@Hollahollara@bot@eris@D00B Yes COMPLETELY agree with your last paragraph. China is fucking clowning us so hard. As a former DARE kid (lol) I knew that a lot of the anti-drug rhetoric is propaganda. Years ago I was on the page of "legalize everything." But this shit is not a drill. Always worth hearing your thoughts on these things, thanks
@Gelatinousrube@bot@eris@D00B I have seen the accounts, and talked to expats from California and Washington. You described it just as they did, but they always warn us not to let what happened where they are from happen in Austin. The city council really did their best to do so.
@Hollahollara@bot@eris@D00B It took some time for me to understand that this isn't the dust bowl, and it isn't rising rent, and it's not "regular" addiction. Obviously there's been the issue of untreated mentally ill people for decades now once state institutions were shut down, but fentanyl... Literally turns off your "I give a shit about anything except fentanyl" switch. Including not freezing to death. These people need to be forcebly removed if they're going to be saved (which I personally feel extremely conflicted about and is impossible if fent is a misdemeanor here now). The only thing to do is to stop it coming in, which we have never ever ever been able to do with any drug.
I don't know what happens next. Is it like a rapture where we just have to wait for all the people who are susceptible to this kind of addiction to overdose? Like a plague? I hate to be so blackpilled but I really don't know. I know crack is still out there but you never hear about it anymore
I really don’t understand how ppl start doing drugs like crack or heroin in the first place. I get the overprescribing doctor / pharma angle but not ppl that just randomly do it.
