     @matty @Humpleupagus @pasture This is what I’m thinking too. It wouldn’t be easy to dump the whole database without ssh access, and if there was a vulnerability in the backend there are bigger targets than chudbuds.

     Whoever got access to Chudbuds seems to have had root access to their database - I'm going to guess that Claire didn't have SSH keys set up or she had password login enabled with a weak password or something. I do not know the nature of the breach.

Generally speaking, /cow/ and Kiwi have extremely hostile attitudes to each other and this extends to properties which can be seen to be "affiliated" with one or the other. My best guess is that someone who was a /cow/ regular held a grudge against chudbere because of her site essentially being Kiwi/eceleb central and decided to compromise everything for lulz and to send a message. To answer your last question, no, these people don't care about the fediverse as a whole, it's just internecine community drama that they pursue for the hell of it.

     It was most clearly a phishing attack, based on Frantech, Protonmail, and other credentials being exposed. No doubt about it. Someone gave out a credential, credential was used nearly everywhere. Finding out the VPS host and additional info isn't difficult. I didn't read the rest of the thread so idk what else to throw
